The CK Daily – Good Food, Great Company

Happy Monday!

This weekend was a good one! On Saturday I mostly just relaxed and watched the livestream of the Pokémon NAIC (North American International Championship). It’s always fun watching high-level matches and seeing some of the wild decks people bring to the table. Later that evening I grabbed dinner with some friends at a Cajun restaurant and had some shrimp and grits that were absolutely delicious—definitely hit the spot. Afterwards, we watched Ballerina, the new film set in the John Wick universe. I really enjoyed it. I’m a big fan of the John Wick franchise and it was cool to see another story set in that world.

Sunday was a bit more traditional. Went to church in the morning and then headed over to my parents’ place to celebrate the holidays and Father’s Day. We had Korean BBQ (so good!) and a bunch of desserts—including this Chocolate Flan Cake my sister’s fiancé brought from a Colombian bakery. That cake was dangerously good. It was one of those days that just felt like a warm hug—good food, good people, good vibes.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Cris

Learning Center Article – Fix Slow Network Speeds: Ethernet Cable Types & Data Rates

Signal loss is one of the most underestimated causes of poor network performance. Whether you’re managing a home office or a large commercial backbone, Ethernet cables silently determine how much bandwidth you truly get. Over time and with extended use, these cables can wear down, which leads to signal attenuation and performance issues.

The CK Daily – A Father’s Day for Two

It’s Friday, everyone!

Father’s Day is coming, and we’re already looking forward to it—not just to celebrate my dad, but also because a special guest will be joining us. After months of working far away, my boyfriend is finally coming home. He’s on his way now as you read this blurb.

Back in 2023, his dad passed away due to lung cancer. One of the hardest parts for him was being the one to bring his father to the hospital, stay by his side, and care for him day in and day out. Even though he’s not the only child in the family, he’s the only one—aside from the youngest—who doesn’t have a family of his own, so his older siblings asked him to take full responsibility. Their mom has hypertension and anxiety, so they couldn’t rely on her to take on the emotional and physical toll. He even stopped working just to focus on caring for his dad.

After several weeks in the hospital, the doctor delivered the heartbreaking news: even with chemotherapy, their father only had a few months left. They decided to go home with their dad and, for the sake of their mom, kept the prognosis between the siblings. Their plan was simply to make their dad’s remaining days as comfortable and full of love as possible.
Sadly, the day they feared eventually came. His dad passed away while he was resting at his side. He had just closed his eyes to catch a little sleep after many sleepless nights, and when he woke up, his dad was gone. For a time, he blamed himself, but we reminded him it wasn’t his fault. His father had already been battling the disease, and he had done everything possible to be there for him.

Now, my boyfriend gives all his love and attention to my dad—like a real son. I think he misses his own dad so much that all the things he would have given or done for him, he’s now doing for mine.

Advance Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there—and to those who have become guardian angels to their families. 💙

Kat

Learning Center Article – How to Measure Ethernet Cable Performance: A Practical Guide for Everyday Users

Slow downloads, lagging video calls, and interrupted backups aren’t always your ISP’s fault. In many cases, the issue lies within the very cable linking your device to the network. While routers and modems get plenty of attention, Ethernet cables are often ignored, despite being the literal backbone of wired connectivity. These cables come in various categories and quality levels, and over time, even high-grade wiring can degrade or underperform. If you’re upgrading your internet plan but still stuck with old patch cords, you may be bottlenecking your network.

The CK Daily – Deer Drama

Hi everyone!

This past weekend definitely didn’t go as planned. On my way back to my hometown, a deer sprinted right in front of my car. Thankfully, it was small and I’m completely okay, but my car wasn’t quite as lucky. Now I must play the waiting game for my insurance and the body shop to hear what needs to be fixed and how long it’ll take. Fingers crossed it’s a quick turnaround because being without a car is never ideal!

Despite the rough start, the rest of the weekend turned around. Even with light showers over the past few days, I’ve been able to do bocce ball, pickle ball, and long walks (my favorite!) in the afternoon. I’ve also been watching the new episodes of Black Mirror – I would love to know your thoughts about it if you’ve been watching them too!

Overall, it was a hard start, but I’ve been focusing on the good things and will figure out the rest when it comes! I’m hoping this weekend is smoother than last one and maybe have less rainy weather! Have a great rest of your week and an amazing weekend ahead!

Rachel

The CK Daily – Meet Matt!

My name is Matt Mishkin, and I am the new Sales Manager at CablesAndKits!

I am originally from Evanston IL (just outside of Chicago), and that’s where most of my family still lives. I am blessed with an incredible Wife, Elena, as well as a one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl named Ruby. We also have a 4-year-old Bernedoodle named Nala, and a 12-year-old turtle (Red Eared Slider) named Mel.

Me, Elena, and the animals moved to Sandy Springs, GA two years ago while she was pregnant with Ruby. She grew up here, and her parents and much of her family still live in the area, which is fantastic. Elena and I initially met at the University of Michigan in 2011, and have been together ever since. I still consider myself lucky that she was adventurous enough to face the Michigan winters as a Southerner.

This past weekend, my dad was in town visiting from Chicago, and he spent lots of quality time with Ruby. Watching my parents interact with her is one of my favorite things in life. We took him to Waffle House, naturally, and tried to go swimming in our community pool Saturday afternoon after Ruby’s nap. We all got changed and lathered up in sunscreen, made sure we had full water bottles, snacks, and Ruby’s pool inflatables, walked over to the pool, and right then, dark clouds and thunder rolled in. Classic! My dad and I watched the NBA Finals on Sunday night, as we’re both big sports fans. Unfortunately, our beloved Chicago Bulls have been mediocre (at best) over the last decade. It was a great weekend filled with lots of family time.

Have a great rest of your week, everyone, and an early Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, especially mine!

Matt

The CK Daily – Outdoorsy Weekend, Indoor Ending

Good morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone’s having a great week so far!

I had a really fun and much-needed relaxing weekend! On Friday, Josh and I checked out the monthly summer concert series my town hosts on the first Friday of each month. It was such a great time—and I love how our town puts on events like that to bring the community together!

Saturday took us up to North Georgia for a little hiking adventure! We hit Preacher’s Rock, a quick 2-mile trek along the Appalachian Trail that rewards you with incredible views. The weather was perfect—sunny and warm without being too hot. After getting back to town, we grabbed dinner, but as we were leaving, we noticed some ominous clouds rolling in… and then the skies opened up! A major storm hit, and my power went out from 6:30 PM all the way until 4:00 AM.

With nothing else to do, we went for a drive and attempted to walk around Walmart—only to find it was closed from the outage. Same story at the first Waffle House we tried. Thankfully, we found another one that was open and hung out there while the storm damage settled. It was wild to see how much impact the storm had! Being without power definitely wasn’t ideal, but I’m incredibly thankful for the linemen who worked through the night to get everything back up and running!

Wishing you all a great rest of the week!

Rebecca

The CK Daily – Stormy Nights, Summer Breaks

Happy Monday!

Saturday morning, I headed over to our new church building site to help with some much-needed yard work and some maintenance projects. There was a lot of shoveling and moving of dirt, but we were able to get a lot done and luckily, we had folks with heavy machinery to help move the big stuff. Afterwards we had a game night with our neighbors at our home and enjoyed playing some board games. While we were enjoying our gaming, there was a storm brewing outside and the winds picked up and knocked over an umbrella outside. There were pretty huge gusts of winds and a few minutes later the power went out. Apparently that night North Georgia got hit with some pretty nasty storms and tree limbs and trees were down everywhere, downing many power lines. Luckily crews were able to get the power back online pretty quickly. I’m thankful no trees were down in our neighborhood!

This week my kids are headed to vacation Bible school at a friend’s church, and they are super excited about it. As parents we’re thankful for the short few hours break we get! The kids are already getting stir crazy, so having some activities and events for them to go to has definitely been a blessing!

I hope you have a great weekend and a wonderful week!

Cris
