CK Daily – 11.30.2023

Happy Thursday & Happy Computer Security Day! The devices we use today hold a lifetime of data. It’s vital to protect the information they hold. Today is a reminder to us all to check our security measures on all of the devices we use!

The CK Daily – A Much Needed Break (Criag pt. 2!)

Happy Thursday!

Last time, I wrote about the origins of the CK Daily, our work during Covid, and my need to take a sabbatical. Now, on to Part 2.

After the insanity of Covid was over, I planned to take 1-2 months off. An advisor suggested I needed to take more like 4-5 months off. Crazy, I know, but with a great team in place and the ability to do so, I took the advice. Within three months, I had reassigned some roles, including asking my wife, Christin, to step back into the business after nearly 10 years away. I committed to joining a monthly strategy and financial meeting and was content to work on projects around the house, start a few hobbies, help friends with some things, and I began tinkering with a few revenue-generating side projects.

I expected to come back, but by the five-month mark, I decided not to. It wasn’t that I disliked the business, the people, the customers, the product, or anything else. I think I was just done with it for a while. It was a 20-year season, which is a long time to do anything. I came to realize that I tend to work as if I’m trying to swim across the ocean, thinking that if I don’t swim all the way, I will drown. But “all the way” never comes—it’s the ocean. In my 20’s and 30’s my ability to swim seemed endless. But the older you get, at some point, you just give out. This realization is probably why the advisor suggested such a long break. I needed time to reach a blank slate and re-evaluate everything.

What I didn’t yet understand was the difference between things that give you energy vs things that take your energy and how that plays into the grand scheme of all of it.

More to come in Part 3!

Craig

Learning Center Article – Bits and Bytes

In a world of computers, everything is digital, and when you get down to it, that means everything is expressed in 1s and 0s.

In order for computers to keep track of all of the 1s and 0s, they group and organize information. They do this for calculating things on a computer, storing pictures on a flash drive, and even liking posts on social media. As for that grouping, it involves bits and bytes, so let’s take a minute to learn all about these important units.

The CK Daily – Do you read reviews?

Happy Wednesday!

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! This holiday season has been such a rush – full of family, friends, and lots of good food.

Over this past week/weekend, I didn’t find myself participating in as much holiday shopping as I have in the past. Normally, my husband and I would do some Black Friday shopping and knock some of our Christmas shopping out early on, but this year we didn’t! However, as I was scrolling through ads and such, I did find myself clicking on several things and heading straight to the reviews to see what people had to say. If it was a clothing item, I wanted to know how it fit and what people had to say about the material. If it was a household product, I wanted to know if they liked it, why, and if it worked as expected. Then it had me thinking, reviews are key!! Do you read reviews? If so, what do you like to see when you do?

If you’ve shopped with us at CK, have you left us a review? We are always striving to provide the best possible service and we’d love for others to know about it from you!

If you’ve got some time, we’d love for you to leave us a review!

Hope you have a wonderful week!

Ashley

OM4 patch cables take all the benefits of OM3 fiber and increase the transmission bandwidth up to 40gbs, and in some cases 100gbs. OM4, like, OM3, is laser-optimized to give optimum performance and reliability. Unlike other old fiber types, OM4 has a higher attenuation that helps create lower losses over greater distances.

Learning Center Article – COM, EXT, IND – Temperature Ranges for SFPs

When you build a network, you primarily focus on hardware that meets certain requirements. It has to be fast enough and able to manage enough traffic for your applications.

In some cases, it might also need durability requirements, and one of the scariest things for sensitive networking equipment (like SFPs) is something as simple as temperature. If it gets too hot or too cold, it can damage your hardware, and your whole network fails.

The CK Daily – Thanksgiving Recap: Family Traditions, Online Shopping, & Zoo Adventures!

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend and enjoyed some time with family or friends. We typically celebrate two Thanksgivings on two different days, one with my in-laws and one with my parents, but this year we had lunch at my parents and then dinner at my in-laws, which made it quite a busy day. I can say I didn’t feel like eating the next day haha, and we had a great time and I’m very thankful for those moments. We don’t have very big families, so it’s usually very low key, but we make it a tradition to get together every Thanksgiving. One of the things that I actually most enjoy about Thanksgiving (aside from the delicious food) is watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with my wife and kids. There’s something just a bit magical about it, and it’s on my bucket list to watch the parade in person. My wife thinks it’s a bit crazy to sit out there for hours in the cold, but I have it in my mind that it would be fun!

I remember in years past going to stores the days after Thanksgiving to shop for deals, but with e-commerce stores and monoliths like Amazon, there’s really no need to scramble around. This year we did most of our shopping online for Christmas presents, and instead of going to the stores, we visited Zoo Atlanta. There’s a program for Georgians called the Library Pass Program that allows anyone with a membership to the Georgia Public Library to check out a DVD and get free admission for a family of 4 to the zoo. Although it was a bit chilly, my kids enjoyed the zoo and loved seeing the giant pandas. Zoo Atlanta is one of the last remaining places to see Pandas and I wanted the kids to see them before they were sent back to China. It’s weird to me that animals can be on loan from other countries, but I’m thankful that we were able to see them, especially for my kids (which I’m hoping they’ll keep as a great memory). For those who aren’t able to visit Zoo Atlanta, they actually have a Panda Cam where you can enjoy watching these cartoon-like animals. We also lost my youngest daughter at the zoo, but found her by an ice cream booth, a scary experience and story for another day (thankfully she was unharmed and was doing quite well).

I hope you have a great week back from Thanksgiving and a wonderful day!

Learning Center Article – What is a WLAN Controller?

Wireless network management isn’t always easy — especially if you have a large WLAN.

Every time you increase its capacity, you have to configure devices. At the same time, you also have to make sure you have good wireless coverage across the physical areas you support. And if you run into bottlenecks anywhere in the network, you have to redesign and rethink everything.

Happy Tuesday & Happy National Stuffing Day! As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, this is the perfect holiday to celebrate! Do you have any stuffing recipes to share?

In This Issue: Gratitude in the Midst of a Challenging Year | AC Power Cord | What Is QoS (Quality of Service)? | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Gratitude in the Midst of a Challenging Year

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! We’re only a couple of days away from Thanksgiving which is a day I normally love, but if I’m being honest, this year I’m heading into it with mixed emotions. I’m feeling both excited for a day that is focused on giving thanks, but also acknowledging that it’s going to be more of a challenge than usual.

I feel like a broken record talking about what a difficult year this has been, but that’s the reality of life right now. This year has brought lots of hurt, confusion, anger, disappointment, fear, stress, and just really caused me to come face to face with the brokenness in this world, including in myself.

It has been a tough 11 months, and gratitude hasn’t exactly been flowing out of me but I know that needs to change which is why I’m excited for this holiday that is centered around giving thanks. It’s an important practice and the Bible clearly tells us to “be thankful in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). That’s a verse that I always read and thought “I would definitely be someone to give thanks in the hard times,” but the truth is I have struggled with this which is why Thanksgiving is more of a challenge this year than before.

Knowing that this holiday has been coming up has had me thinking a lot about gratitude lately and trying to find ways to change my heart posture. Here are a couple of things that I’ve learned that I hope will help you if you are in a similar season of life!

For starters, it’s WAY easier to be thankful when I shift my focus away from my circumstances and fears, but rather step back and remember that God is in control in the good times and the bad. I worry a lot about my family but remembering that God’s love for them is bigger than my fears really helps to lift a weight and keep things in perspective. It’s also important to remember that we never walk through these valleys alone which is absolutely something to be thankful for!

The other thing I’ve learned is that gratitude and forgiveness go hand-in-hand. It’s hard to have one without the other which is why I’m learning the importance of offering forgiveness. It’s so easy to hold onto anger and bitterness, but that doesn’t honor God and that keeps our focus on the wrong thing. It trains us to see the flaws and wrongdoings of others while somehow giving ourselves a pass. If we truly understand our own sin and truly rejoice in the forgiveness that God grants to us, how can we then withhold forgiveness from others? When I think about how thankful I am for the grace granted to me, I can’t help but feel thankful and to realize the importance of giving grace and forgiveness to others.

I know this isn’t my typical CK Daily content and I feel like I rambled a bit, but hopefully it helps if you’re currently in a tough time of life. Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Rebecca

Happy Monday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Who’s ready for a wonderful meal around the table with family & friends?

In This Issue: A Night at the Gala! | Meraki Access Point | StackWise-480 and StackWise 1T Explained | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A Night at the Gala!

Happy Monday,

On Friday I had the privilege to attend the Light The Way Gala sponsored by Lightway Recovery, which is a nonprofit women’s residential addiction recovery center and ministry. CK sponsored a table and our president, Chris McCoy and his wife, and a close friend consultant and contractor of CK, Jason Scott Montoya and his wife were also able to attend to represent CK at our table. It was a fun night, the MC was hilarious, and the org raised a good bit of money through donations, silent auction items, and the selling of beads (which was used in a silly game of heads or tails). What was most remarkable about this event were all the personal stories shared at the event and how Lightway Recovery, with the grace of God, was able to help transform lives that were utterly destroyed and fallen apart. Addiction is such a catastrophic force that can impact not only the person facing it, but friends and family members too. It’s absolutely fantastic that there are places like Lightway that facilitate healing and transformation.

One of the founders of Lightway Recovery and their sister organization, Navigate Recovery, holds a special place in CK’s heart and history. Susan Barge was CK’s first HR director and on a personal note, over 10 years ago, Susan was the one I first spoke to about working at CK and was present through the entire hiring process at CK. She left the company a few years after that to follow her dream of starting a non-profit, and boy did that dream flourish. I’m so proud of her accomplishments and the great work she’s done. Sometime during the night Farley, Susan’s husband, and also a co-founder came up to me looked directly into my eyes, and said, “You know, I still remember being in your warehouse that day, that was the day that we received our first check from CK, our first real donor, that’s something I’ll never forget.” I remember that day as bittersweet, an ending of one chapter and the beginning of another, and I’m still amazed at what Susan and Farley have accomplished with a dream, the Grace of God, in such a short amount of time.

Please check out Lightway Recovery’s website for more information about the services they provide. I hope you have a great and wonderful Thanksgiving week and a great Monday!
