The CK Daily – A Memorial Day Reflection

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend!

I got to spend a little time at the pool, hung out with the family, and ate plenty of delicious food! It was a nice unofficial kickoff to Summer, but even with all the fun, Memorial Day really is a somber holiday. I spent plenty of time reflecting on what the day is all about and remembering those who gave their lives so that we can live safe and free here in the USA. I’m so humbled and thankful that throughout our history we’ve had brave soldiers willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the country they loved and believed in.

Obviously, we’ll never be able to personally thank them, but I do wonder what they’d say if we were able to talk. I wonder how they would answer the question “was it worth it?”. Has our country lived up to what they envisioned it would be? We’ll never get to have the actual conversation with them, but it’s a question worth pondering ourselves. Are we living in a way that honors their sacrifice in the way that we treat each other? The way we seek and hold political office? The way we advance the values of freedom, liberty, and justice for all?

We are so blessed to live in this great country and I hope that Memorial Day can serve as a reminder of just how blessed we are, and the responsibility that comes along with that! Hope everyone has a great week!

Rebecca

The CK Daily – Sacrifice & Family

Happy Thursday!

For most of us, Summer officially kicks off this weekend. School is getting out, vacations are starting, cookouts are happening, and pool time has begun. This weekend means so much more for us overall. This weekend, specifically Monday, we honor the sacrifice of those brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom and protection. It is a somber reminder that all that we have, our ability to live our lives the way we do, and our freedoms did not come without a significant price. I want to take a moment to honor the sacrifice of those men, women, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and friends, that made the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country.

As we gather with our families and friends this weekend, let’s remember to take time to honor these brave souls that have gone before us and given their lives for the freedom of our country. Also, with the horrors that we have seen on the news and have experienced as a nation over the past two weeks, and especially last Tuesday, remember to hug and show appreciation to your family and friends as you see them over the weekend.

I pray that you, your families, and friends have a safe Memorial Day weekend and that you make some special memories with all of them to kick off the summer.

Jason

Learning Center Article – How to Choose Ethernet Cables for Gaming

It’s good that you are looking at Ethernet internet options. As a gamer, you likely understand the horror of laggy games. When it comes to home networks and gaming, latency is a huge deal and can make or break your whole experience – and in the game, whether you live, die, or succeed. Latency is always with us; it’s just a matter of how significant it is.

Wi-Fi simply isn’t as stable as Ethernet, and it leads to slower effective experiences due to higher chances of interference. Slow internet speeds can ruin the entire game, so you want something that can keep up. At the same time, you don’t want to spend a life’s fortune just on cables.

The CK Daily – First Concerts

Happy Wednesday!

This past weekend I got the joy of attending a concert with my cousin. It was her first concert and I think she loved it! She was fairly nervous at first, as she didn’t know what to expect, but once the songs she has listened to over a hundred times in preparation for the concert started playing – she loved it!

It was a pretty full-circle moment for me as the headliner of the concert was Kenny Chesney. And believe it or not, Kenny Chesney was the first concert I ever went to when I was in the 5th grade! She wasn’t there to see Kenny Chesney, but what are the odds that we’d go to a similar first concert over 10+ years later?

Anyways, do you remember your first concert? Who’s your favorite artist to see in concert?

Learning Center Article – Single Mode vs Multimode Fiber Cables

Fiber optics are essential for building the most capable networks, but when making design choices, there are plenty of options that serve fiber optics in general. One of the primary choices available to any network engineer exists between single-mode fiber and multimode fiber.

These are physically different approaches to fiber optics communication, and as such, they offer different strengths and weaknesses. To effectively choose the right design for your network, it helps to have a better understanding of what separates these types of cables.

The CK Daily – Fun Times in Nashville

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday!

I am back in town after heading to Nashville, TN last week for a few days to attend a work conference. I’m not huge on conferences as they can be overwhelming for an introvert, but it seemed like this would be a good chance to meet some folks who I interact with on a regular basis and learn a few things so I stepped out of the comfort zone and went for it! I’m so glad I did because it turned out to be a great time. I got to meet a lot of folks and had some really great conversations!

It was also fun to experience Nashville. There’s so much great food, awesome live music, and really good people watching! 😉 It was a fun trip and I hope to attend next year! Hope everyone has a great week!

The CK Daily – Top Gun: Maverick

Good Monday Morning!

I feel the need… the need for speed! Only four more days until the much-awaited Top Gun sequel – Top Gun: Maverick comes out. I’m very excited to watch this movie as the original was a favorite when I was a kid. I grew up in and around a few Air Force bases and I had the privilege of going to a few air shows and would always see planes overhead. My father served in the United States Air Force for 20 years.

With Top Gun you not only got to see some awesome planes such as the F-14 Tomcat, but you also got to experience what it was like to be in the cockpit and that made all the difference. The amazing soundtrack (which I owned on cassette tape) also majorly enhanced the film.

From all the buzz around the movie, I’m going to predict Top Gun: Maverick is going to be a wild success and I can’t wait to watch it. Are you all fans of Top Gun? If you haven’t seen it, you can watch the original Top Gun on Netflix.

Learning Center Article – Throughput vs DRAM and Flash Specs

When it comes to designing and managing networks, there is an endless challenge of trying to improve performance. Inevitably, that includes upgrading and replacing hardware. When you research hardware for upgrades and replacements, you’ll see a lot of different tech specs listed in the descriptions.

Two common terms that come up are throughput and bandwidth. You’ll see bandwidth more in advertising spaces, and you’ll see throughput more when you look up real-world tests of the hardware. Why is throughput so important? Why don’t you see more about flash specs?
