I went to the office again yesterday and helped get a billion penny orders out. I was there till midnight again but the blow out sale is finally over. We ended up with a little less than 150 items that no one wanted and I just finished putting in the pull orders to get those items off the shelves and into the dumpster ( / recycle bins). And before you ask, nope – it’s too late to get your hands on any of those items. That ship has sailed!

It seems that people got all the goodies, which is great. Boy there sure were some deals! What’s left is truly junk – old 3600 series faceplates, data cables that are no longer used, etc. While it may have made for a nice Christmas Tree decoration it’s going bye bye and our shelves couldn’t be happier. We will recycle what we can and trash the rest.

Since I was helping in the warehouse some during the sale, and especially here at the end, I saw many sale items run through my hands. I was shocked to see items that I remember moving into that building ….. over 12 years ago! I am all for hanging on to something you may need in the future, but that’s a little crazy. It just goes to show how out of hand something can get if you neglect to pay it any attention. But we are working on fixing that!

As this sale is ending, and we are getting past the craziness of “spring cleaning” (Summer Cleaning?), I can begin to settle back into a rhythm of hopefully writing about more interesting things! I have some updates about hand sanitizer dispensers, Lysol Spray (there is a little going on the site today), and webcams as a starting place. I will start writing about those things and more soon!

I hope you had a great long weekend. I complain ALL – THE – TIME about Chinese holidays. I once said to a Chinese vendor that it would be EASIER for them to just tell me what days they were planning on working instead of which ones they would be off. But, taking off and enjoying the holidays that we do have here has shown me that there is a lot of value in “playing hard” (or “relaxing hard”) in between working hard. I think the Chinese certainly do that well in my experience! (Work really hard with down time in between). This holiday was one of those times. I didn’t lift a finger to work on anything CK related and it was glorious.

In fact, I had just finished the Star Trek Original Series and was able to watch the entire Animated Series (which I didn’t even know existed until over half way through the Original Series), and watch 5 of the 6 Star Trek Movies. I am watching the 6th one right now (I am writing this email Sunday night). I must say – I got to where I really enjoyed the original series. Once I got passed the antiquated technology (I grew up watching Next Generation) and fully knew the characters it got good. Then, the animated series. Uhhhhh … well I made it through the animated series. I am glad I watched it because there were things that I recall showing up later, but it was to be endured. Here was the big surprise to me …. I thought I was going to have to grin and bear it through the movies but I absolutely loved them. And, it was so much better to watch them with the knowledge of the Original Series and Animated series. “The Wrath of Khan” – I would have really missed out had I not already seen the episode where he was introduced. Once I finish The Undiscovered Country (the 6th and final movie with the original cast) I will begin The Next Generation from the very beginning, which I have never done.

Today was awesome. It was the first time many of our staff got together in person since this mess started! I have said before that once we got in the hang of working from home we decided that we were not going back to the office. We said that part of our plan would be to get together in person once per month (all staff) to hang out, eat, have fun together, etc. Today was the first of these days. Our entire staff didn’t make it for various reasons but that’s ok – it was great to see all those that did!

We started the day by having our weekly management meeting onsite, followed by hamburgers and hotdogs from the big CK grill. It was fantastic to hang out and chat with the CK peeps!

Let the countdown to the fourth of July begin! CK (and many businesses) are closed this Friday to create a long weekend around “The 4th of July” / Independence day. For the days off, and the long weekend, I am grateful and am very much looking forward to it. Me and my family live on a small lake in rural Georgia and on our first fourth of July in the house last year we put the pontoon boat in the water and was able to witness lots of fireworks around us. Our girls (now 4 and 7) especially loved it. We are looking forward to attempting to do the same again this year (weather permitting).

On the other hand, I can sometimes be (or used to be) annoyed by holidays that slow down progress, business, and getting things done. But, I have started to try to slow down myself to understand, and come to appreciate, why a holiday was worthy of becoming a holiday. This weekend I started thinking about how little I know of the details of this holiday and became curious to learn more.

I quit school in 9th grade, was never good at / interested in History, and therefore grew up taking many things our history teaches us for granted. I am sure I am no different from many – perhaps some are ignorant about this and others are ignorant about that, but none of us know it all, and maintaining some level of curiosity and appreciation for history can keep us moving forward in our knowledge and appreciation of the country we call home.

As a starting place, I went to youtube and did a few searches. One video leads to another! I may post some that I find interesting later this week. For now I am swimming in info and having my mind blown.

Father, I want to thank you for my wonderful staff. As I work with many of them, and am aware of the work of those I don’t often come into contact with, I am so grateful that you have allowed them to be a part of what we are doing together. I might enjoy the work of my hands, but I enjoy it infinitely more when I get to co-labor with those I enjoy working with. Thank you that you put joy in our hearts as a result of the work we get to do, and thank you for the people that we get to do that work with.

I hope you had a good week, and I hope you have a fantastic weekend! This week seemed to go by very fast to me for some reason. I STILL don’t think I have recovered from the many crazy weeks and am really looking forward to the weekend.

I have been thinking about baby Jojo lately and will get an update soon. Please continue praying for the family.

There are so many items that we need to clear out that we don’t have time to research current market pricing on each of them, so we are doing things “in reverse”. We will drop the price daily and whatever sells will be evaluated at that point. If we can source it and keep selling it for the new price, and there is still a demand for it, we will. If not, a good deal awaits you and our warehouse shelves will be lighter. Either way, it is a necessary change. Sometimes you need to make a change. Sometimes you have to do something radical. And sometimes you have to face the facts. Some of these items may be dead and gone (minus the gone) and we need to face that fact.
