The CK Daily – Sweet Summer Weekends

Happy Thursday! It is Friday eve and I am feeling ready for the weekend! I love summer weekends because they are always packed with sun, fun, and adventures! This weekend we are pretty booked.

Starting Friday night, we’re going to have a cookout with our friends to start the Fourth of July celebrations. We’ll eat some great food and have a wonderful time together. Then, on Saturday, our family is coming to visit us from out of state, and we’re going to a birthday party! It’s going to be so much fun. We’ll laugh, play games, and enjoy our day.

On Sunday, we’ll continue celebrating the Fourth of July with our friends and family. We’ll do fun things together and end the night lighting fireworks. Even though the weekend is going to be busy and exciting, I’m also really looking forward to Tuesday having a day to relax and take it easy.

I look forward to recharging my energy before I go back to my regular routine.

Do you have any plans for this weekend?

Joi

Learning Center Article – What Is Digital Optical Monitoring?

Fiber optic networks are powerful, reliable, and essential for many enterprise-level operations, but they are not easy to design, and they can prove challenging to maintain. It requires a lot of time and expertise, but both of those things cost money.

If you’re looking for ways to save on network management with fiber optic systems, one bit of technology you might want to explore is digital optical monitoring.

Happy Wednesday! The week is flying by. We hope you’ve made some great progress on your to-do list for the week and are on track to wrapping up the week strong. Full speed ahead to the weekend! 💪

In This Issue: The Final Countdown | 19-inch Rack Mount Kit for Cisco ISR 4330 | Single Mode vs Multimode Fiber Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – The Final Countdown

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far.

This week has gone by pretty quickly. I’ve been spending lots of time doing various work in the nursery and starting the process of washing all the things. I will say, my least favorite thing about getting the nursery together so far has been removing all of the tags off of things. There are SO many tags on every little thing and those little plastic clear tags that hold everything together that you have to search for on blankets and clothes, drive me NUTS. Anywho, we’re on the homestretch and are officially (as of today!) on the one-month countdown to the due date. We’re on the final countdown, if you will.

Also, I’ve been making some great progress on my goal of reading 26 books this year. I’m still behind on my goal but am quickly starting to make some great progress. I decided that rather than watching TV shows in the background while I’m working, I would give audiobooks and try and I am loving it! I started a book early this week and will likely finish it today. Are you a fan of audiobooks?

If you have any reading recommendations, send them my way! Have a great rest of the week!

Ashley

The CK Daily – Glimpses of Goodness

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is off to a great start to the week! Last week felt so rainy and “blah,” so I’m super thankful that the sun is shining this week (even if it’s HOT!).

I wanted to give another update on my cousin, as many of you have reached out to offer your thoughts and prayers. David has now been at the Shepherd Center for just over a week and it has been wonderful, but also tough! He’s now in an electronic wheelchair which gives him the ability to get around a bit and he was able to get outside for some fresh air which certainly was good for the soul. That said, the majority of his time is spent in intensive physical therapy. It’s so good for him to do, but as you can imagine, it has left him feeling quite exhausted! Another local news channel did a report last week and you can see and hear the exhaustion in his face and voice in the report.

Here’s a link to the news report if you are interested!

Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle that struck David was significantly underinsured for the injuries caused. The family has set up a Go Fund Me account that I’ll link here in case anyone feels led to donate or even share the link with others. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of both friends and strangers. It’s a nice reminder that there’s still a lot of goodness in the world!

The CK Daily – Food Traditions

Happy Monday!

The sunshine brought a welcome reprieve to all the rain we had last week, and we were able to spend some time at a park this weekend. We also spent some time celebrating my dad’s birthday. My parents just returned from a family reunion on Oahu (my father is from Hawai’i) and my dad made some laulau which is typically a meat or fish dish wrapped in leaves and baked/steamed. Instead of using the traditional taro leaf, he used collard greens and instead of using pork, he subbed in oxtail which turned out amazing.

I’ve only ever had pork laulau, and in my opinion, oxtail is a complete game-changer. Think about the richest braised beef you’ve ever tasted, that’s pretty much what it was like, and the flavors also infused into the collard greens. As the gray hairs start settling more on my head I’m more appreciative of the food traditions of both of my inherited cultures. There’s also a lesson to be learned by making do with what’s available and making it work. I hope you have a great week and finish the month strong! July is just around the corner!

Happy Friday & Happy National Take Your Dog to work day! Imagine having an office full of 4-legged friends playing everywhere, running behind you in your Zoom calls, living their best lives with you all day long at work. What a life that would be!

In This Issue: The 12 Seasons of Georgia | RCA Cable 2-Male to 2-Male, Double Audio Cable | What is Switch Stacking & Why is it Important? | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – The 12 Seasons of Georgia

Happy Friday, folks! Did you know that Georgia has 12 seasons? Some last a mere days, while others are much longer. Our spring lasted much longer this year, so we enjoyed those cool spring days through most of May. This also meant that we didn’t jump straight from Winter to Summer! In case you’re wondering, here are those 12 “humorous” seasons:

  • Winter
  • Fool’s Spring
  • Second Winter
  • Spring of Deception
  • Third Winter
  • The Pollening
  • Actual Spring
  • Summer
  • AC is sweating buckets while the heat does the cha-cha
  • False Fall
  • Second Summer
  • Actual Fall

With our longer-than-normal spring season this year, we delayed the annual planting of our garden until the end of May. With the abundance of rain and the temps making their way into the 80s here, our garden is starting to pop! It’s funny that while I didn’t grow up planting a garden yearly, I find working in it enjoyable. I’m always reminded that working in a garden is like many things in life. You start with a plan. You begin a new project (plow, then plant ). You remove the unnecessary stuff (removing weeds or grass that springs up in a garden). You optimize for results (adding fertilizer to the garden). Your new project generates results (you harvest in late summer or fall).

I’ve also realized that the harder I work for something, the more I appreciate the results. Gardening has its easy days and its tough days. The hardest is when it’s blazing hot and weeds must be removed. It takes perseverance to keep the garden healthy and ensure it produces a crop.

What life lessons have you learned from simple things like a garden?

Have a great weekend!

Chris
