Hand Sanitizer Blowout | The RV adventure continues | Cisco RCKMNT-1RU Rack Kit

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

Well I’ve had quite an adventure in the last few days, and particularly Sunday. I’ve continued my hunt of a motorhome and settled on a couple brands and models within a certain age and miles range. I found what seemed to be the perfect unit at a fantastic price that was a few hours away. I called and had a great conversation with the owner and ended up going to look at it last Wednesday. While I expected to need to do some repairs, the quantity of them really started to pile up fast. It was a good bit below market value – way more than the repairs would cost, so I kept pondering on it.

I was nearly willing to pull the trigger when I saw the exact same unit on RVTrader for a tad more money but without all the issues. It had a little wrong here and there but it was being offered by a dealer and they were going to make the repairs. Great! It was in Utah though, which is a 28 hour drive in a normal car, so quite a long trip in an RV but I thought ”hey, a person buying a motorhome had better be willing to drive distances!” Ha.

I haggled a deal by phone, and got them to agree to let me sleep in the RV for a night when I arrived. They said they’d never had anyone ask that before and that I’d be locked in the fence with the guard dog. Sounded cool to me!

I booked my flight on Sat afternoon for Sunday evening. I planned to fly out at 8pm, arrive at 10pm with the time change, grab a hotel, and then head over Monday to begin my inspection and overnight stay.

My wife had been resistant to this whole plan until I made an executive family decision to get one, and said that if we hated it we could sell. After that she started pondering the whole thing and next thing I know she is showing me yet another unit on RVTrader late Sat night. It was even BETTER than the one in UT. It was even more than the previous one but was worth the difference hands down. Trouble is I’d already put down a $1000 non-refundable deposit and bought a plane ticket to Utah.

Nevertheless, it was better enough that it was worth exploring. And, it was in Florida – much closer! I spoke with the owner Sun afternoon and told him I had a one way ticket to UT that NIGHT. He told me everything I needed to know, described all the updates that had been done, and even had a pull behind SUV for sale as well, which we also wanted. The fact that it was already setup and ready to go was a huge bonus.

We started haggling price via text and there were long delays between responses. I figured he was pondering or talking to his wife but it turned out he was on business calls (on a Sunday?). We still were not talking the same language on price and I was already driving to the airport. I texted that I would change my flight from Salt Lake to Orlando if we could agree. We were close on price so I went ahead and asked if he’d mind if I diverted my flight to Orlando.

He didn’t reply quickly, but I was half way to the airport and needed to make a decision. I decided to take a chance and change my flight to Orlando. I’d deal with the deposit / Salt Lake unit later. I pulled up the delta app to look for a change flight option. “Your upcoming flight will allow check in 24 hours prior to departure”. Wait, what? I HAD BOOKED THE FLIGHT IN OCT!!

Granny’s Biscuits |USB Console Cable | Sanitizer Dispenser Price Drop | Tech News

Happy Friday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard …

Johnny Cash took only three voice lessons before his teacher advised him to stop taking lessons and to never deviate from his natural voice.

Do you remember the old HBO movie intro? Back in the 80’s when I was a kid my brother would turn a movie on and this would play. I remember watching this opening scene like it was yesterday! I especially loved the part where the colorful lines move around the edge of the O.

Sometimes we want things to be the way they were before. Simpler. Videos like this remind me of what it was like when I was a kid and didn’t have the worries of today. It reminds me of where I was at the very instant I saw it the first time. I was roughly 6 years old, and in the lap of my “granny” (great grand mother) who was around 92 at the time. She had a rocker that she always sat in that was in front of the TV. I remember sitting there with her many times watching The Price is Right, and even Days of our Lives – until I got bored with it and ran off to do something else. But Bob Barker sure could keep my attention! Especially when they played Plinko!

We didn’t even have HBO. This was back in the day of the cable boxes with the turn dial. My brother, who is 8 years older than me, had figured out that if you stuck a piece of cardboard behind the dial, turned the channel between HBO and whatever was next to it, and SMACKED the side of the box, HBO would come in crystal clear! As a 6 year old I was pretty amazed at this magic.

I remember the azaleas in my granny’s front yard, and the white rocks that I had never seen anywhere else. I remember the shed in the back yard that we used to climb up on and JUMP off of. You should have seen granny fly! Kidding, hahaha … my and friends and cousins were the ones doing the jumping. I remember the spicket (spigot) in the back yard that I was standing near when I got into a minor fight with some boy – the first and last time I have ever fought anyone (I’ve come close a few times!). I remember my granny making biscuits by hand with no measurements on the bare kitchen counter in her old drafty house with single pane windows and flaking paint.

There was something so simple about it all. Peaceful. Fun. Comforting.

But then things changed. Age 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 …. My granny died. Family members got into a fight and put each other in ICU. My family fractured. I wasn’t allowed to see my grandmother. I got picked on and bullied in school. My mom wouldn’t work and I dropped out of school in 9th grade and got a full time job to eat.

As I got older I realized the world was not all biscuits and azaleas. You toughen up …. some maybe to the point of being closed off, bitter, jaded, cynical, etc.

IKEA | Modeling Business for Others | Price Drops on Thermometers and Gowns

Happy Thursday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard …

IKEA is an acronym which stands for Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd, which is the founder’s name, farm where he grew up, and hometown.

Today I met with a former CK team member for lunch. He left over a year ago and went out on his own to focus on sourcing products overseas to save his clients money and reduce overall time and aggravation. We do this too, but he wanted to focus 100% of his effort on it as well as radically change his lifestyle which included selling his house and moving a few hours away to be near family.

We met because we are still great friends that don’t get to see each other very often. He was in town on business and we were able to connect which is always a great time and today was no exception. One of my favorite people!

In addition, we are working on a project together and were able to discuss it a little. He has a client that he’s manufacturing several thousand sneeze guards for that will go into retail locations. He’s not setup for logistics, nor does he want to be, so he asked if we could handle that aspect. I gladly accepted because we have a great team and great operation that handles warehousing, logistics, and pick/pack/ship every day. We’ll receive several containers full of product, then stage and process over 100 pallets to over 60 locations nationwide. Fun!

When I left our lunch appointment today I was thinking about how not only have we remained great friends but how he also trusts me/us to handle such a critical aspect of this deal for him.  And this is a guy that worked for me for 10 years and knows where all the bodies are buried! Haha.

The Will of God | Clorox Canister Wipes | Crazy Good price on 3-Ply Masks | OM3 Fiber

Happy Wednesday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard …

German Chocolate Cake is named after an American baker by the name of Samuel German. It has no affiliation with the country of Germany.

Who knew.

You really need to check out the two things Joe is saying below today. Cannister wipes are back in stock, and we have slammed the price down on 3-ply masks!

I just banged out a few paragraphs on the will of God below. I hope you’ll check it out.

Today’s Product Spotlight from Rerun (AKA Rebecca):

Happy Wednesday!! We made it to the halfway point so it’s all downhill from here, right!?

Today we are featuring a product that’s an absolute staple… Sometimes overlooked, not always given it’s due, but always there for us when we need it… OM3 Fiber! This small but mighty cable is an MVP when you think about it… it utilizes laser-optimized multimode (LOMMF) transmission and enables high bandwidth with speeds up to 10Gbps!

We offer a wide variety of options in OM3 (and many other optical modes!) including your choice between Basic Cable or Premium Cable. We also offer a variety of connector types including Push-Pull Tab, Standard, and Uniboot!

Our Premium OM3 cables feature Corning® Optical Fiberglass to give you the highest degree of strength and purity along with low attenuation! In addition, our cables are made with Bend Insensitive Fiber (BIF) meaning you can bend and twist away with minimal loss, Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) jackets, Ultra Physical Contact (UPC) Polish, and Simple Polarity Reversible Function!

From Joe, our friendly Safety Supplies Product Marketer:

BIG NEWS!! All of our 3-Ply Face Masks have seen price cuts! This includes both our adult size as well as our Kids Face Masks. The best part about this is like I mentioned yesterday, our 2000 pack will be on sale throughout the week. That means not only did it see a price cut, but that price is on sale! This is the lowest our prices have ever been, take advantage!

Now I have something that I used to love telling you guys about! It’s been a while, but we have CANISTERS again!! Check out our cleaning wipes page and you’ll see we finally have more Lysol 80 count canisters! People seem to prefer canisters over flex packs so now’s your chance to grab some. There’s no telling how long these will last, I’m always in shock with how fast you guys sell us out of these!

New Wipes | Face Mask Sale | Consequences of a Lack of Self-Control

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

This weekend I got a nice long walk that I didn’t expect, didn’t want, but that was my decision. My wife and I were driving down the road, and as couples sometimes do, we started arguing about something … I don’t even remember what. I said something to the effect of “I feel the overwhelming urge to pull over and get out” which was a way to say “I can’t take any more”, to which she responded, “whatever you feel you need to do”. Out the car I went (after stopping of course).

That’ll show her!

Just how far from home am I anyway? 8 Miles! Well whatever… it’s exercise. How long does it take an out of shape cripple to walk 8 miles up and down hills in the burning afternoon sun? Four. Four hours is what it takes. The last time I intentionally walked on the treadmill was for 20 minutes and I tore my Achilles’ tendon. No joke. What’s wrong with me?

I’m very strong willed. Like you’ve probably not met anyone quite as strong willed as me strong willed. When I decide I am going to do something I almost always do it, now, and with high speed and high energy. So the moment I opened that car door I had just committed to walking 8 miles in the heat. I had two people attempt to pick me up pretty early and I politely declined. I felt that I’d committed to walking home and by golly that’s what I was going to do.

At almost an hour in I thought this is tough, maybe I’ll Uber. None available .. ever. Fine, never mind, I need to walk this anyway. Another hour in I thought ok, if someone stops again I guess I’ll take the ride. There’s no way I’m going to hold up this long with my bum leg, bad back, being out of shape, the heat, no water, etc. No one ever stopped again.

We’re Hiring for Product Marketing | Website Update | Sanitizer and Dispenser Combo | Prayer Update

Happy Thursday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

Did you hear that the zip lock bag broke up with the Saran wrap? Too clingy.

I make up and say dumb jokes all the time. Sometimes I get lucky and find a funny one. Me and the family went to Chili’s for dinner tonight. The server took my order – a steak with salad. I asked for balsamic vinaigrette dressing. She said “how do you want that cooked?”. I said “you cook the vinaigrette?” She laughed. My wife just stared at me. She said I was like Burt in Mary Poppins with the entire band of instruments on his back – I can make the jokes, say the jokes, and laugh at the jokes and I don’t even need anyone else. Haha … she’s right. As long as I have fun telling the joke I don’t think I care if anyone else laughs :-D.

I think I find the greatest joy in finding the humor in everything, and I mean everything. My mind instantly goes to a movie scene, a comedy routine, or just the irony or pun hiding in everything. I do everything else because I have to – haha. I think in another life I would have been a writer in a comedy series or an actor in an ensemble group like Seinfeld. I would have been Kramer … maybe Jerry but let’s not get too big headed.

Sometimes I encounter people and I think “Why so serious? You’re gonna blow a gasket. Ease up … find something to laugh about”. I cannot imagine a life where there wasn’t comedy. I cannot go a day without making a joke or a movie reference or observing a pun. Ask anyone around me. In fact (here comes a movie reference), in meetings, if I observe or think of something funny I will almost always interrupt the meeting to make the joke. Sometimes I have to contain myself but it’s a lot like this if I do ….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDsgkRW2hDA

“No toon can resist the old shave and a haircut”. I cannot resist telling a joke or pointing out a pun. If I worked in corporate America I am sure I would have been fired 10 times by now. I’m sure my leadership team fantasizes about firing me all the time, or worse.
