CK Daily – 11.07.2022

November 7, 2022 by CablesAndKits

Happy Monday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed time with family and friends. If you’re a UGA fan or an LSU fan – it was a good weekend for you!

The CK Daily – Soaking up the extra hour!

Happy Monday!

Goodbye daylight saving and hello “extra” hour of sleep! It’s one of my favorite times of the year, although I will miss some of the sunlight. This weekend we didn’t really do anything exciting or notable, we put together some cube storage and repotted some basil plants, and that was about it. There’s beauty in having an uneventful weekend. Often times those are my favorite types of weekends, where I can catch up on chores, read a good book, or catch up on a couple of shows. And/or on Disney plus has been a delightful favorite of mine lately. Its tone and pace is a little different than the recent Star Wars series (i.e. The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi); if you are a fan of Star Wars it’s definitely worth a watch. Have you watched any good TV lately? Any Sci-Fi recommendations?

Also, a friendly reminder that tomorrow’s Election Day and if you haven’t voted yet, I encourage you to do so. It’s something I’ve taken for granted in the past, but as I get older I value and see the importance of voting.

I hope you have a great week and crush all your tasks and goals!

Cris

Learning Center Article – What are the advantages of OM5 Fiber?

Information technology has headed in one obvious direction for the past several decades. More people come online every year, and the constant demand is for more speed. As these systems grow, infrastructure will continue to be put under greater strain in order to keep up with the trend.

  • Apple is working to simplify how users interact with Siri. The company has reportedly spent the past few months training the digital assistant to respond to “Siri” instead of “Hey Siri.” On the surface, that’s a simple change, but one that Gurman says involves a “significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering work.” The reason for that is that a two-word trigger phrase like “Hey Siri” increases the likelihood of the software responding to a request.

The CK Daily – The most wonderful time of the year is here!

Happy Friday, folks! So if you’ve been out to any stores in the last week or so, you probably noticed Christmas decorations popping up. This triggered an interesting conversation between coworkers discussing when they put up Christmas decorations. Some wait until after Thanksgiving, so they can enjoy their turkey before the Christmas decorations go up! Others are ready to put their decorations up now!

My family puts out our decorations the week of Thanksgiving. My kids love helping put the outdoor stuff up way more than the indoor stuff! It’s always a lot of fun!

So this brings me to my question: is it too early to put up Christmas decorations? I’d love to hear your perspective!

Learning Center Article – Understanding the Basics of Network Switches

Networking is a big topic. In fact, it’s too big for a single conversation. In order to distill such a massive concept into manageable bites, it’s best to look at one component of a network at a time. This time around, that bite is network switches. They come in many shapes and sizes, but you can navigate through the field of options pretty easily when you break switch features into three categories.

Happy Thursday! The countdown to Thanksgiving is on with 21 days until we are sitting around a table feasting. In preparation for your Thanksgiving festivities, what’s your favorite side to prepare and enjoy?

In This Issue: Being Thankful | Kendall Howard Desktop CPU Wall Mount Shelf | Best Way to Connect Multiple Switches | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Being Thankful

Happy Thursday!

It is amazing that at the stroke of midnight Monday night it switched from Halloween to Christmas everywhere. It started before then at a lot of places but now it is officially everywhere. I totally get it, but what about Thanksgiving? Haha!

So, we are in the month where we are all a bit more mindful of being thankful. Unfortunately for me, this is not something that I constantly do, but I know I should. It is so easy to let that slip our minds and take the things we have or the lives we have for granted. With it being a whole new month and the “month of being thankful,” before I get out of bed each morning, I am forcing myself to name one thing I am thankful for. This is just part of my goal for this month of shifting my perspective and being more intentional with my thoughts and outlook this month. I wrote down 11 things to remind myself of every day and have them sitting on my desk, so I constantly see them:

Be Thankful
Be Happy
Be Kind
Be Faithful
Be Gentle
Be Joyful
Be Peaceful
Be Disciplined
Be Generous
Be Focused
Be Positive

These are the attitudes and mindsets that I want to have each day and begin to intentionally ingrain into my actions, words, and thoughts. Seems like a good month to really start retooling some of my daily activities and habits around these, especially with the busyness of life and work here at the end of the year.

I hope everyone has an awesome rest of the week and weekend! Big football game this weekend for a lot of us in the South, especially in Georgia. So, with that said…Go Vols!

Jason

Kendall Howard’s Desktop/Tower Wall Mount CPU Brackets are designed to get the computer off the floor and the desktop. The brackets make it easy to secure and mount any desktop PC to the wall or side of the desk. The included velcro strap secures the PC to the bracket.

Everyone needs a CPU bracket to protect their PC. Computers located on the floor are in continual danger of being jostled and kicked, not to mention the difficulty in accessing the drives, ports, and card readers. Desktop computers and PCs that sit on a desk take up valuable work space, look cluttered and unorganized and run the risk of being damaged by a soda or coffee spill. The Kendall Howard Desktop CPU Wall Mount Bracket protects the PC and creates a more functional, organized workspace.

Learning Center Article – Best Way to Connect Multiple Switches

What is the purpose of connecting multiple switches? In most cases, the goal is to expand network access. When you connect switches, you get more ports that can be used, and that means more devices can utilize the network.

Depending on the configuration, connecting multiple switches can also increase the bandwidth of the network. This is important for any demanding network that is short on total bandwidth.

As we all know, fiber optic lines are complicated, powerful, and delicate. They provide incredibly powerful communication signals with high bandwidths and great reliability. But, because they are so delicate, they can be damaged.

When damage occurs, you can either repair it or replace it, and the former option is much cheaper. Here are the steps to repair a cut fiber cable.

The CK Daily – A Memory Filled Trip

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday! BIG shout out to Ashley for writing for me last week! I took the week off for a vacation on Hilton Head Island. If you’ve been reading the CK Daily for a while, you know that’s pretty much my top destination if I’m out of town! We took a family trip there and brought along my 8-year-old nephew which made it even more special. He came with us for the first time last year and loved it, so we had to bring him back!

The week absolutely FLEW by… I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun! The weather was perfect so we got to spend a lot of time outside riding bikes, walking, and of course, I got in quite a few miles running! We also did a TON of eating… the food down there is just irresistibly good and I basically told myself vacation calories don’t count, so I enjoyed every bite!

It truly was an ideal trip and I’m so glad for the time off and the memories made! Looking forward to being back in the swing of things this week, though!

Rebecca
