The CK Daily – A Bittersweet Reality

Howdy, everyone!

How’s everything going so far?

Last Monday, March 3rd, my family celebrated my brother’s 30th birthday. It was a happy occasion, but also bittersweet—he’s moving to another city for work this week. He hasn’t even left yet, and we already miss him!
My brother has always been the clown of the family, the one who keeps things light and fun. The other day, my mom mentioned how much quieter our home would be without him, and I could see the sadness in her eyes. He’s been a huge help to her, especially with house chores, ever since his job was affected by the pandemic and I became the only one working. Now that we’re finally settled in our new home, it’s time for him to start his own journey—without us physically by his side.

We’ll support him from afar and wish him all the best in this new chapter of his life.

For those of you who’ve lived on your own, how was your first month of independence? Any funny or eye-opening moments? I’d love to hear your stories!

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend ahead!

Kat

The CK Daily – Spring Break Recharge

Good morning and happy Thursday!

Last week I talked about my college midterms and felt super busy, and this week I get to relax over Spring Break! I love having a week off, even if I am using the week to get ahead on more assignments and the little things that I don’t always have time to do. Over the weekend, I slept in and fully relaxed by putting on movies I hadn’t watched yet. My favorite one was The Wild Robot, it may seem like a movie for kids, but it is sweet and has some tear-jerking moments.

After having a nice, chill weekend, I jumped right back into it. I worked and then took the time to reorganize my closet and desk, which got a little messy from the first half of the semester. I also deep-cleaned a few things so I can keep them as nice as possible until the school year ends.
After all of that, I gave myself some retail therapy. I don’t do it often, but I had a few things that I wanted like color-changing lightbulbs and new gym shorts! I am super excited to try out some new lightbulbs that can dim and change colors from my phone. I feel a little behind the curve for fun lightbulbs, but I didn’t need them until now so I’m excited to see what they can do!

As my break comes to an end, I feel good about all that I have gotten done this week and happy that I am halfway through the semester. It’s just like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and knowing it won’t be too long until the next break.

How do you like to recharge when you get a break? Do you prefer relaxing with a movie, getting ahead on work, or treating yourself to a little shopping? I love to have a balance of it all, and I’d love to hear how you spend your time off!

Rachel

The CK Daily – Alpacas, Art & Adventure

Good morning & Happy Tuesday!

I’m coming off an incredible weekend exploring Northwest Georgia and the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, packed with stunning hikes, unique experiences, and some seriously adorable alpacas!

Friday kicked off with a trip to one of my favorite Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in Georgia—Crockford-Pigeon Mountain. This sprawling 20,000-acre area boasts over 14 trails, and we made the most of it! We hiked the Rocktown Trail, where massive boulders create an otherworldly landscape. Then, we stopped at Hood Overlook for some breathtaking views before taking on the Lost Wall Trail, one of my favorite short hikes, which leads to a gorgeous waterfall.

Saturday was all about exploring hidden gems. We started the day at Rosie Mae’s Alpaca Farm in Wildwood, GA—a charming coffee shop and boutique located right on an alpaca farm! With nine friendly alpacas roaming the property, we couldn’t resist petting and feeding them. It was such a fun experience!

Next, we visited Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center, nestled at the base of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga. This beautiful nature preserves featured scenic trails, a bamboo forest, and even treehouses which were fun to explore! After grabbing lunch downtown, we stopped by Sculpture Fields at Montague Park, a 33-acre outdoor museum showcasing over 50 large-scale sculptures. Such a cool, open-air art experience!

We wrapped up the weekend with an early Sunday sunrise hike in Zahnd Wildlife Management Area. The views were absolutely breathtaking, but I won’t lie—it was tough to enjoy in 28-degree temps with high winds on the side of a mountain! Next time, I’ll definitely be more prepared for the cold, but I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Hope you all had a great weekend too! What’s been your favorite recent adventure?

Rebecca

The RRA2U, Recessed Rack Adapters were developed and designed by CablesAndKits to solve the problem of protruding equipment in racks. The 2U Recessed Rack Adapters are used to mount computer, A/V, and/or networking equipment slightly deeper in an equipment rack (3 inches from the face of the rack), allowing the ability to close rack doors when protruding wiring or equipment would have otherwise prevented doing so. These are perfect for mounting in patch panels, shelves, and other standard 19″ equipment.

The CK Daily – Honey Magic

Happy Monday!

What a not so busy weekend! It’s that time of year again in Georgia where you can feel the pollen apocalypse coming. If you know you know, but essentially a thick yellow layer of pollen from all the trees in Georgia covers everything from the roads to your home, and cars. My family is experiencing their first battles with allergies and for some lucky reason I’ve not experienced any major symptoms… yet. I think it’s because I’ve been eating local honey with my oatmeal for breakfast. Unfortunately, the rest of my family does not like the taste of honey at all! I’ve been enjoying honey delivered from a guy named “Dan the honey man!”, a nice older gentleman that goes around in his pickup truck to deliver honey for $10 a mason jar! I don’t know if there is any scientific proof that shows honey preventing seasonal allergies, but it seems to work for me, and I like the sweet taste!

Other than that, we focused on Spring cleaning this weekend and celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday with a nice dinner out. That’s all for today folks!

I hope you have a great day and wonderful week!

The CK Daily – Friday … Payday

Happier Friday—It’s Payday, everyone!

The day we all look forward to after weeks of hard work has finally arrived!

For me, as the primary provider for my family, payday means settling debts, setting aside savings, paying bills, and then saving whatever is left for the future. Some might say I should save first and budget the rest, but as the only one working, I’ve tried that method before, and honestly, it didn’t work well for me. My biggest reward? The peace of mind that comes with clearing bills before their due dates.

How about you? How do you treat yourself on payday? Do you splurge a little, save up, or celebrate in your own special way?

Salute to all the hardworking individuals providing for their loved ones! May we all achieve financial freedom while taking care of our well-being.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!
