CK Daily – 10.23.2025

October 23, 2025 by CablesAndKits

Almost Friday! Spooky season is calling. 👻 It’s National Horror Movie Day, the perfect excuse to cozy up with a scary flick (or maybe keep the lights on). Any horror movie recommendations?

The CK Daily – Cozy Kickoff to the Season

I hope your week has been great so far!

My weekend started off with one of my favorite traditions, Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas. I know some people joke about how all the movies are the same, but honestly, I love the comfort they bring. Even though it’s only October, cold weather is here so I’m ready for all things cozy and Christmas. Plus, it gives me something to look forward to every weekend, especially since I don’t have any new shows or movies on my list right now.

Saturday was all about football like usual! I started off my day on campus at 10:30, not studying but instead getting in line for the game! The waiting was boring, but the game was incredible, and the Dawgs pulled through for another win! My sister was able to come to the game with us, which was so special since she is a UGA alum. We grabbed dinner at Larry’s Subs afterward, went to Cookout for dessert, and headed home completely wiped from the long, exciting day.

As y’all probably know by now, I had a classic Study Sunday at the student learning center with my boyfriend and his roommates. We got there at 10 and stayed until 4:30, getting through all our assignments until we couldn’t handle being in the same four walls anymore. It was a productive and exciting weekend, but I was wiped. Safe to say, I slept good on Sunday night after that weekend.

Midweek burst of color! 🎨 It’s National Color Day, celebrating the hues that brighten our world and lift our moods. What color best describes your week so far?

The CK Daily – The Joy of Simple Things

Happy midweek, everybody!

Have you ever healed someone’s or your own inner child?

Last weekend, McDonald’s opened its first-ever branch in our municipality. Everyone was excited to visit, and one of them was my mom. Growing up, she never got to experience eating in a fast-food restaurant, so having one built in her birthplace brought her so much joy. We went to treat her and stayed to watch the fireworks show at 7 p.m. The place was packed, with long lines at the counter, people waiting for their orders, and not a single vacant seat, but we patiently waited. This wasn’t my mom’s first time eating at McDonald’s, but since it was the first one in her hometown, she didn’t mind waiting for hours just to experience it.

While my mom was enjoying the place and I was ordering our food, I couldn’t help but look at the Happy Meal toys on the counter. I remembered when we were kids, my mom would just order one chicken meal for my brother and me to share. We couldn’t afford the Happy Meal with the toy because she taught us to be practical; after all, we couldn’t eat the toy. Now that I’m working, I find myself slowly healing that younger version of me. I bought two Happy Meal sets, and that simple act made me so happy. Seeing my mom smile and holding a new toy brought me a sense of joy that’s hard to describe.

I know it may seem shallow to some, but it’s a memory that will truly last and one I’ll cherish forever.

It’s Tuesday, everyone! How do you like them apples? 🍎 It’s National Apple Day, a sweet (or tart) celebration of one of nature’s classic treats. Whether you’re enjoying apple pie, cider, or a crisp slice, what’s your favorite way to enjoy this fall favorite?

The CK Daily – Making the Most of October

Good morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone’s having a great week!

October just might be my favorite month of the year! Last week, I got to visit Washington Farms with my family. If you’re a regular CK Daily reader, you’ve already heard Rachel and Cris talk about their trips there… it’s the place to be during Fall in Georgia! We took my nieces and nephew, and they had the BEST time! There are so many activities for the kids to enjoy, but by far their favorites were the corn box, slides, and jumping pillow!

On Saturday, I headed up north to Dahlonega, GA to celebrate the birthday of one of my best friends. We grew up across the street from each other and have maintained a strong friendship ever since we were 6 years old! It’s fun to have friends that have been there through every single stage of life! The weather was amazing and Dahlonega was gorgeous!

On Sunday, Josh and I checked out a local park that has some hiking trails. We were both really impressed and will definitely be back! After our short hike, I had to get out the door for a 9-mile training run which was a challenge to say the least, but I’m glad to have gotten it done! It was a wonderful weekend!

Learning Center Article – Industrial Switches vs Commercial Switches

Switches are essential pieces of equipment for networking. Whether you are talking about a home network, central systems for internet service providers, or anything in between, switches usually show up. In most cases, switches are used to connect core devices in a network while end users might not connect directly through a switch. Because of that, switches can specialize in how they support networking and the tasks they perform, and that allows for design enhancements.

The CK Daily – From Competition to Connection

Happy Monday!

I missed last week’s update, so this one’s a bit of a catch-up! Last weekend I was in Milwaukee for the Pokémon Regional Championships. There were around 3,000 competitors, which is wild to think about. I ended up placing 1,073rd—not great, but not terrible either. I started off strong, winning my first two best-of-three rounds, but things definitely went downhill after that. Still, it was a blast and a great time hanging out with friends and meeting new people in the community.

The only downside was missing my daughter’s karate tournament while I was gone. She took first place in sparring, which she’s an absolute pro at. I couldn’t be prouder!

This past weekend, I made sure to dedicate all my time to family. We went to the park, tossed the frisbee around, and just enjoyed the beautiful weather. We also stopped by my parents’ place and had a great time grilling out together. It was a perfect, slower-paced weekend after a pretty busy stretch.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Cris

Learning Center Article – What is a Layer 3 Switch?

In network design, there is often a battle for resources. Networks seem to constantly face larger volumes of traffic and greater demands on bandwidth. Juggling more connections usually slows the network down considerably, and that leads to the struggle. How do you handle increased traffic without sacrificing performance? In some networks, Layer 3 switches can improve traffic management while also increasing net performance.

The CK Daily – Family & Funny Signs

Happy Thursday everyone!

This past weekend was such a good one! Saturday was all about family time as we celebrated a recent birthday. We had some good southern cooking, which I have been craving lately, and wrapped it up with a Nothing Bundt Cake. Their cream cheese icing is to die for, and it was the perfect pairing with the lemon cake. We sadly couldn’t stay much longer, because my boyfriend was running the Athens Half Marathon the next morning, and we had to pick up his race packet! After that, it was a blur of errands to prep for race day and the upcoming week before heading to bed early for our 6AM wake-up call.

Race morning was a blast, I love surprising my boyfriend with the sign I make each year, and this year’s was definitely a hit (in his eyes and with plenty of other runners too). It said, “Toenails are for Losers”, and let’s just say I got way more TMI about toenails than I thought, but it was hilarious.

After the race (and a much-needed shower for him), we celebrated with a Taqueria Tsunami lunch and splitting a dirt-and-worms custard cup from Andy’s. The weekend flew by in the best way, but now I’m definitely ready for a more low-key weekend coming up. As much as I love traveling and staying busy, I’m craving some serious study time (after the UGA game of course).

Here’s to family, good food, and balance for the weekend ahead!
