The CK Daily – Weekend Adventures & the Best Tacos Ever

Happy Monday!

And Happy Veterans Day! Thanks to all the veterans who have served, thank you for your sacrifices and bravery!

I had a pretty interesting weekend. We took a long drive to head to a collectables marketplace called Charlie’s Collectible Show. This is a large indoor venue where there are toys, games, trading cards, and vintage collectables for sale. I heard it has been compared to the Frank & Son Collectible Show in California. We were there when there as a giant Magic the Gathering tournament, so it was quite busy, but we had a great time and the kids enjoyed walking around seeing everything. If you are in the area I definitely recommend it.

When we got home later in the evening our neighbor invited us over for some tacos. Turns out they were holding a huge birthday party and invited the whole neighborhood. I was a little reluctant to go at first, but I thought it would be a good idea to meet our neighbors whom we seldom see. I’m sure glad I met them, because I had the best tacos I’ve ever had and I thought Taco Veloz tacos – recommended by the late Anthony Bourdain were some of the best I’ve had, those are good, but what I had was great! They even had a trompo there which is a vertical split grill for the al pastor tacos. We had all kinds of tacos and it was quite wonderful. That was the highlight of the weekend. It’s definitely getting chillier, I can feel winter coming!

The CK Daily – Holiday Drinks Are Back!

Happy Thursday!

Today marks the return of Starbucks’ beloved holiday drink lineup! Every year, it seems like the red cups and festive flavors hit the shelves earlier and earlier, sparking both excitement and debate. From the cozy Peppermint Mocha to the indulgent Caramel Brulée Latte, these seasonal sips have become a holiday tradition for many.

But where did this all begin? Starbucks first introduced their holiday drinks back in 1997 with the Eggnog Latte, marking the start of what would become a nationwide craze. Over the years, these drinks have grown in popularity, creating a sense of nostalgia and holiday cheer. There’s even a countdown every fall for when these drinks will be released, and it’s a marker for many that the holiday season has truly begun. To be honest, I’m a big sucker for it. And now days, I love when they share little sneak peaks of what the cup designs are going to be!

Are you a fan of the early release, or do you think it’s just a tad too soon for peppermint everything? And the real debate is…. Starbucks or Dunkin? Either way, the holiday drink buzz is undeniable…cheers to the start of a festive season!

If you’re anything like me this morning, you’re likely fairly exhausted from staying up watching the results of the polls come in. I LOVED what Rebecca shared yesterday and by the number of responses we received, several of you did as well. Elections are filled with so much angst, emotion, anxiety, and honestly the emotions go on and on. I’m sure many of us are filled with several different emotions this morning both good and bad.

This morning I’d like to share quotes and verses of encouragement:

The CK Daily – Hope for Election Day

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! If you’ve somehow been living under a rock for the past 18 months or so… stay there and send me the address!

All joking aside, I’m SURE you are aware that today is Election Day! This day can bring a lot of anxiety, no matter who you voted for or plan to vote for. Presidential elections are a big deal as they shape the direction of our country, so it’s natural that we would be feeling a little anxious and on edge as we await the results.

I recently read an article in Christianity Today that stated:

“I don’t know how the vote will go next week, but here’s one thing I can guarantee: Most Americans will feel unhappy, unrepresented, and unheard. I’m counting everyone who voted for the losing major-party candidate, everyone who voted third party, and everyone who was too discouraged by the choices put before us to vote at all. Even millions who vote for the winner won’t be thrilled. Polling shows three in four Americans are part of the “exhausted majority,” those who hold dissimilar policy views but also think “our differences aren’t so great that we can’t work together.” Exhausted majority members aren’t raging partisans, and we make up a significant part of the population in every state. We’d all do well to remember that.”

It’s an interesting perspective that shows that, no matter which “side you’re on,” you’re probably going to be feeling a little disappointed at some level – even if your candidate wins. With such an inflammatory media that loves to sow division and paint those who vote differently from us as an “enemy,” this quote is a good reminder that so many of us are tired of all the divisiveness and share a lot more common ground than we think. Most of us aren’t raging partisans in love with our candidate of choice, but rather friends and neighbors who want good things for our country and just are making the best decision we can with the options we have.

So, let’s approach Election Day with integrity, compassion, and grace. I know so many of us are praying for our country and remembering that, ultimately, Jesus is still on the throne no matter the results. Let’s lean into that peace today, knowing we share a hope far greater than anything on a ballot!

Happy Monday!

Tomorrow’s election day! My favorite parts of election day… the END of election ads, election junk mail, and random political text messages! It’s definitely a cause for celebration! But seriously, if you haven’t voted yet, go and vote and exercise your civic duty!

The weekend was pretty quiet here. The biggest thing that happened was the time change. This is my favorite time change, where we “gained” an hour of sleep, but it’s always seems hard for us to adjust either way. I think there’s something to having your meals at a certain time, and the time change messes that up for us! Anyone else have a difficult time adjusting?

I do enjoy more daylight in the morning though, so it’s all good! I hope you have a great day and wonderful week!
