CK Daily – 08.20.2024

Happy Tuesday & Happy National Radio Day! Today celebrates the great invention of the radio. What’s your favorite channel to tune in to in your area?

The CK Daily – Adventure is Out There!

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! I’m fresh off a super fun weekend that was full of adventure!

We headed down to Whitesburg, GA for the weekend to stay at a place called Historic Banning Mills. It’s somewhat of an “adventure resort” that combines history with a wide range of outdoor activities. They have all sorts of lodging options, but we stayed in their tree house rentals which were really quaint and unique.

They offer dining options at the main lodge, so on Saturday we woke up and had a delicious breakfast before embarking on our day full of adventure which started with zip lining! Banning Mills boasts the world’s largest zip line canopy tour which is kind of crazy considering I’m a Georgia native and had never even heard of this place before!

I’ve got quite a fear of heights and was feeling pretty nervous as we got closer and closer to go-time, but I knew it was safe and I was committed to completing the tour. I’ve been having a lot of conversations lately with my niece about facing your fears and doing what scares you, as she recently had to do exactly that when she had to give a presentation to her class. She was so nervous but I told her she’d feel much better once it was over and said “there’s nothing to it but to do it!”… And that’s exactly what I told myself when I was having to step off of super tall platforms to go zipping down to the next one. It definitely tested me, but I’m so glad we did it! The tour took us about 4 hours as we did Level 3 and added on the Ridge Runner which is a half mile long zip line that provided some amazing views! If you have a few minutes, go search their “Flight of the Falcon” zip line. It looks amazing and terrifying all at the same time… pretty glad we didn’t sign up for that one!

Once the tour was over, we ate a quick bite before heading out on an Eco-Spider SWINCAR guided trail tour. I had never heard of these vehicles before, but they were really fun to drive and could handle all sorts of terrain! Of course I had to deal with heights again when we drove over a suspension bridge that was 170 feet tall and took us over Snake Creek, but after zip lining, it didn’t feel too bad! 😉

If you are in Georgia, I’d totally recommend going to check out Banning Mills! It honestly would make a great day trip if you’re within a couple hours driving range!

Happy Monday & Happy National Potato Day to the side item that tends to steal the show in nearly every meal. Whether baked, fried or mashed, potatoes can be enjoyed is so many ways! What’s your favorite way to enjoy them?

The CK Daily – A Weekend of Celebrations

Happy Monday!

This weekend was full of celebrations. On Saturday we celebrated my oldest daughter’s birthday, once again at her favorite venue, Skate Country. This girl loves to skate and had a blast with all of her friends. She’s definitely growing up too fast! After her skating party, we went over to the grandparents house for another birthday party. She was definitely exhausted, but happy at the end of the day.

The Pokémon World Championships were also held this weekend and that was fun and exciting to watch live streamed. It was not without controversy and definitely high stakes. The winner of the card game gets a $50,000 prize! No one came close to predicting the top decks that were played in the finals and it made for an entertaining match! This is like the Super Bowl of the pokemon card game and it was held in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii! One day I would love to attend World’s in person, but watching it live streamed is great for now.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Happy Friday! The weekend is here – woo! What plan do you have for the weekend? We’d love to hear about them!

In This Issue: A Reflection on the Olympics | Cisco 1RU Cable Management Kit | Router vs Access Point | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A Reflection on the Olympics

Happy Friday!

I am already missing the Olympics, and I was thinking about what was special about it. It kind of brought a feeling of nostalgia for me, and it took me a minute to figure out why. Back in the day, we all knew when certain shows came on and would wait for that day of the week at that time. And you know what? Everyone else did the same thing! There was something oddly connecting about watching a show “together” and talking about it in the days following. Wednesday night was 90210 and Melrose Place for me, haha. In the recent years we have all mostly moved to streaming services. Even in the odd times I find a movie on TBS at a hotel or something, it doesn’t feel like I am part of the “collective” who may be watching it.

I think watching the Olympics was a bonding experience in a way that watching television shows on a specific day and time was back in the day, but it was even more unifying in that we were all cheering for Team USA. I thought it was interesting how that worked, because we weren’t all watching at the same time or even when it happened (like at 4am). But we all watched relatively close together, we all rooted for the same team, and we talked about it during our days. I’m not typically a college or professional sports watcher, but perhaps that is part of the draw to televised sports events.

In a world where we’re so connected that it becomes too much sometimes (thanks social media), we are still seeking connection through real life experiences. My favorite part of the Olympics was the stories of the athletes, things they overcame to be where they are today. We were able to hear their stories and yet also experience wins and loses with them nearly in real time (thanks social media). It was a blend of old and new, creating something that was better for us as viewers and hopefully for the athletes as well. Here’s to more powerful camaraderie and moments together in 2028!

Learning Center Article – Router vs Access Point

Networking devices such as routers and access points are crucial for efficient network management and connectivity. A proper router setup directs internet traffic effectively, allowing seamless access and interaction across different networks. On the other hand, the access point configuration plays a pivotal role in wireless range extension, enabling a broader wifi network access point reach within large spaces.

In This Issue: M&M Update! | Cisco Catalyst 2960-X Series 24 Port 370W PoE+ Switch | CAT6 vs CAT6a Ethernet Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – M&M Update!

I’m melting! I’m Meeeelting!!

It has come to our attention that the M&M’s we put in every order (except blind shipments for our reseller customers) are melting! It’s been so hot and they are just not holding up.

This came to our attention recently when a customer returned an order and didn’t keep the M&M’s (gasp!). We noticed something looked off with the M&M’s and when we opened them, they were broken, mashed, and in a melted pile on one end – gross!

We thought that perhaps this was because of the “round trip” the box made so we did our own test order. We shipped the box just across town which took 1 day. Same result! Oh no!

It’s odd because we have included these in orders for over 20 years and as far as we know, we have not had this issue before. It’s possible no one told us. It’s possible something has changed about the M&M recipe.

They are supposed to melt in your mouth, not in your hand! Or box …

Tough choices have to be made so we are suspending the M&M’s until the weather gets cooler.

The CK Daily – A Lost Goal…Revived!

Happy Wednesday!

I think I mentioned a while back that I have a goal of learning how to play the guitar this year. At the beginning of the year, I was off to a great start but then life happened and I haven’t picked up my guitar in at least a month. Ugh. I was doing so well in playing every day for at least 15 minutes but with our moves, traveling, etc. it just stopped.

That said, this week – I’m picking it back up. I’m going to plan to take advantage of a nap time this weekend and freshen back up and get back to playing. Does anyone have any song suggestions I should learn? I’m a bit of a Taylor Swift fan, as you may know so I’ve learned a few of her songs so far but want to expand.

Cheers to picking back up on what feels like a lost goal!
