CK Daily – 08.12.2024

Happy Monday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. It’s back to school season around us. As we head into a new school year, we’re praying it’s fruitful and full of fun for all!

The CK Daily – Remembering Highway, Olympic Finals & Twinners!

Happy Monday!

It was a little bit of a bittersweet weekend for our family as we had to recently euthanize one of our cats. She had some aggressive tumors that were pushing up against her pancreas and stomach and unfortunately the veterinarian said the best course of action at this point was euthanasia. I found her over 12 years ago along a roadside, a little gray thing that was attempting to cross the highway. It wasn’t until we double backed and got closer that we realized she was a cat and rescued her and affectionately named her Highway. She was our first cat and was a great office cat and will be sorely missed.

Other than that I spent Saturday watching the Men’s break dancing competition and that was the highlight of the games for me. I enjoyed watching the break dancing and glad it was part of the games. And like that the Summer Olympic Games have come to an end. This weekend the Pokemon World Championships are happening in Honolulu. I’m anticipating an entertaining competition in the trading card game side.

Also before I sign off, I’d like to share a new word in my vocabulary that my 4 year old daughter made up. She and her 5 year old cousin dressed in similar colored dresses at church on Sunday and said: “Look Daddy, we’re twinners!” It was a combination of Twin and Winner, I thought that was an awesome word. And they were indeed Twinners!

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Cris

The CK Daily – A Whirlwind of a Weekend

Happy Wednesday!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. As I shared last week, my weekend was a whirl wind but overall turned out great. We celebrated my now one year old on Friday at the Aquarium (photos below) and he LOVED it. There was nothing sweeter than watching him sit in front of the glass and just stare into the tank. After the aquarium, we also took him to Build-A-Bear to take advantage of their “pay your age” birthday bear. Pretty fun! He got to stuff a cute little bear and we walked about paying $1.00 (plus tax) for it.

On Saturday, we had a very simple party for him with our family and it was sweet to just gather, sing happy birthday, and admire his sweet smiles and giggles. We did a smash cake, which was fun but he was very gentle with the smashing part haha.

On Sunday, we had my older brother’s gender reveal party that I was in charge of. It was a pretty sweet experience finding out what he was going to have and surprising them both. One of them was team boy and the other was team girls and well….the result…..team girl!!

All that said, the weekend was nuts and I am exhausted! I’m looking forward to some time to slow down this week and also settle into this house we just moved into 🤪.

Enjoy the week!

Ashley

The CK Daily – Back to School Season

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is off to a great start this week!

I think I’ve mentioned this in the past, but my nieces and nephew live with me part time, and this is back to school week for them! They start tomorrow and are attending a new school this year. They’ve been in a very small homeschool co-op for the past several years, but are transitioning to a fantastic public school which has me both nervous and excited for them!

I think they’re going to thrive in their new school, but also know those “first day nerves” will be intense as they head into an unfamiliar place without an existing network of friends. It’s funny how I’ve noticed my stress levels being higher than normal the past few days as we get closer and closer to Wednesday. I might be feeling those back to school nerves more than they are!

I think we’ll all breathe a sigh of relief once the first day is over!

The CK Daily – Time Away & A Successful Camping Trip

Happy Monday!

We made it safely back from our long weekend camping trip and it was a bit rainy, but great nonetheless. We went back to DeSoto Falls Recreation Area to camp, which is in North Georgia, about 30 mins away from Cleveland, GA. The kids had fun playing in the creek steps away from the campsite and made a couple of friends from the campsite next door. I enjoyed cooking on the campfire and taking naps in my hammock.

On the last full day of the camping trip, one of our neighbors who I can only positively describe as a Turkish Santa Claus (when we first met he wore a Santa hat and had a great white beard, but was a fit 57 year old dude), invited me over for dinner. It turns out he and his Turkish friends (one who flew in from the Netherlands), decided on a whim to go camping. The Turkish Santa Claus, as it turns out, was also a FreeMason and a vegetarian, and a very good cook. We had some Turkish tea, a rice dish, salad, and all manner of grilled vegetables. One of his friends also shared some baklava flown in from Turkey the night before, and it was the best baklava I’ve ever had. This was at first an awkward interaction, but as we settled down for the meal, it felt great to connect with people that I wouldn’t have normally connected with. These guys happened to be Muslim, and that added another interesting dynamic. There were many similarities and certainly differences between our culture and religions, but it was a great experience overall.

Other than that I’m praying for safety for the folks down South dealing with Hurricane Betty. I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!
