Happy Monday! We hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed some time outside. How was your weekend? Did you do anything adventurous?

The CK Daily – Feelings of Nostalgia

Happy Monday!

The weekend passed by like a blur! My oldest will be turning 8 soon and we’ve been planning and preparing for a birthday party at Skate Country a local skating rink. I find skating rinks fascinating as they seem to be timeless – like the music may have some changes, but the overall experience and feel remains the same. It’s also a multi-generational activity. For me it’s a bit nostalgic too and a reminder of the good old days (even though those good old days just change with each passing generation). Something about the smell of the concession stand, the blasting music, and the lights just transport me back to the 90s when my parents would drop me off at the skating rink and I’d just hang out with my friends and skate for a few hours.

I wonder if there are other experiences like that, like maybe walking into a bakery or something. What activities trigger your nostalgia?

I hope you guys have a great week!

Cris

Product Spotlights & Updates

The Cisco original 40G QSFP+ modules are some of the most popular on the market today and are comparable to their popular 10G counterpart, SFP-10G-SR. These 40GBase-SR4 modules are parallel optic transceivers that are ideal for short-range reaches. These transceivers utilize MPO/MTP connectors, operate on OM3 or OM4 multimode fiber (MMF), and use 850nm lasers. These modules utilize 8 of the 12 MPO/MTP fibers to transmit data over 4 duplex (4 sending and 4 receiving) parallel channels at a rate of 10Gbps/channel resulting in 40Gbps speeds. In addition, these modules can be used in a 4x10G mode which allows the module to be compatible with existing 10G transceivers. 40GBase-SR4 modules can reach lengths of up to 100m over OM3 and 150m over OM4 fiber cable.

Learning Center Article – PVC vs LSZH vs OFNP vs OFNR Cable Jackets

When comparing fiber optics cables, there are a lot of different components and considerations. One important component is the outer jacket of the cable. Outer jackets can be made from a number of materials, and generally speaking, the jacket materials can work with any fiber cable type. That means that choosing the right cable jacket is often independent of choosing the fiber setup.

The CK Daily – How are the economic changes impacting you?

Happy Friday, folks! We’re halfway through August, which means college football is just a few weeks away. I’m sure someone from our team will cover college football in the coming weeks. Today, I want to ask you how you react to the recent changes.

There have been many changes lately: the feds raised interest rates, recession talk, layoffs, the stock market is a rollercoaster, etc. These topics can create fear in us IF we let it. While we cannot control the events, we can control how we react to the situation. I want to remind us none of these topics is a surprise to God. He told us in 1 Peter 5:7 to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Have a great weekend!

Chris

Learning Center Article – What does 5G mean for business networks?

There is a lot of technology generating excitement for more applications than we could hope to name. One central theme to virtually all of that technology is an increased demand for data and the need for higher bandwidth for connectivity. More devices than ever are actively communicating, and they are placing massive burdens on existing infrastructure.

Copper networks and 4G wireless have a shelf life. Within the next couple of years, they will no longer be able to service standard demands — much less cutting-edge applications. Ultimately, we all need a network that is built for the new age of connectivity. That network will run on 5G.

The CK Daily – Another Year Around the Sun

Happy Thursday everyone! It is good to be back chatting with y’all after our little break.

Well, yesterday I celebrated another trip around the sun! It was a great birthday, pretty low key but that was a good thing. When you get older, sometimes those days just become another day in a lot of ways. I always get reflective on birthdays and this year was no different. I have a lot to be grateful for and thankful for this past year. I have my family, awesome friends, I am in great health (got my birthday run in yesterday and still could run 6 miles in 53 mins), and I have an amazing job at a rockstar company. I don’t take any of this for granted. God has blessed me way beyond what I deserve. I am excited and looking forward to all the great things in store for this next year.

I hope each of you have an amazing Thursday!

Jason

Happy Wednesday & Happy National S’mores Day – one of the world’s most popular campfire treats! Are you a fan of s’mores?

In This Issue: Officially moved! | Kendall Howard Wall Mount Hardware Kit | Choosing the Right Switch for your Crypto Mining Network | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Officially moved!

Good morning and Happy Wednesday! It’s so good to be back and with exciting news – we have officially moved! What a good feeling it is to be in a place that we can call home and begin to make new memories in! Aside from all of the unpacking, painting, and mounting things on the walls, it’s been so much fun to explore the town we are in. I think the most fun part of moving was that we packed so much of our stuff away while we were in limbo and living at my parent’s house, that when we unpacked it almost felt like Christmas unpacking everything and remembering all that we packed away.

For the most part, we’re pretty settled in. Our guest room is set up and ready for guests and we have all the main necessities you’d need for day-to-day activities. We’re patiently waiting to pick up a few custom-made tables for our entryway and for our coffee stand, so stay tuned!

Thank you for all the well wishes on the move. They were much appreciated!

Ashley

Learning Center Article – Choosing the Right Switch for your Crypto Mining Network

Crypto mining is a popular way to try to make money. In its simplest form, miners use simple setups that make a few extra bucks here and there. In extreme cases, miners dedicate entire warehouses of hardware to mining, and when they are efficient enough, they can make big money.

Regardless of where you fall on this spectrum, mining can only work when your devices reliably connect to the internet. So, you need the appropriate networking hardware to get the most out of your efforts. In that light, we can look at some of the traits that will prove the most valuable for a crypto mining network switch.

The CK Daily – Strange Side Effects

Happy Monday and hello again!

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. So a funny thing (well not so funny) happened after I came home from vacation. We felt fine the first few days and then BAM! Rona decided to visit, and everyone felt pretty awful. I’m feeling tons better now, but when I first got it, it felt like I was hit by a freight train and then a bus. I also had a bit of a cough and runny nose (it felt kind of like the flu overall). My wife had the virus first and she felt more or less the same way. My 2-year-old had fever-like symptoms for 2 days and felt better immediately afterwards, but my 7-year-old has stayed strong and has not gotten it this whole time. 10 out of 10 I do not recommend getting this virus. Luckily we all just tested negative over the weekend and are on the mend.

While I feel better, I noticed that things started to taste off and I realized I lost my sense of smell and taste. Also, something very strange out of the ordeal with losing smell and taste is that water “tastes” weird. This may sound dumb, but water just tastes wet and everything else is just a texture experience. I tried a brownie and it ended up tasting like the consistency of playdough and chips taste like crunchies and a bit of salt (but absent potato flavor). I kind of “sense” when things are sweet or salty, but I can’t sense bitterness or other flavors, it’s the strangest thing and the saddest thing, because I love food! It’s been about 2 weeks and I’m starting to get some of the taste and smell senses back. Hopefully, this is just temporary! Have you experienced this as a side effect of Covid? Would love to hear your experience and how long it took (hopefully) to get your taste and smell back.
