The CK Daily – Being a Daymaker

Good morning & happy Thursday!

Tuesday evening we had our first volunteer “get together” / training for our new Church campus launch next month. It was a great time getting to meet the other people and families that I will be joining over at the new campus in our county. We have all been in church together for years but just at different campuses, so it will be great getting to serve with all these amazing people going forward, every Sunday.

During the training, our campus pastor talked about how important it is to make each and every man, woman, and child that comes into the building feel like we are here just for them, help them feel special, and feel at ease. It was a great reminder that each and every person, no matter who they are, what they’ve done, or what they have been through, they are special to God and to me (us). He called it being a “Daymaker”. How do we make each and every person’s day better and brighter? This made me ask myself, how am I doing this in my everyday life – family, friends, work, neighbors, etc.? How am I making other people’s days better and adding to them instead of taking away from them? How am I making their day brighter?

It’s a tough but fun question to ask yourself daily. How can I make at least one person’s day brighter? Maybe helping them do something even before they ask, taking them out to lunch, sharing an encouraging/uplifting word with them, helping a family in need, or just spending some time with someone. It can be so many things that will lift a person up. The added benefit when we do this is no matter what is going on in our lives right then, our day will be brighter as well.

Just a challenge for the rest of the week and weekend, find someone to help or make their day brighter in some way. It may seem simple to you, but it may make their day and make a huge difference in their life.

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Jason

Learning Center Article – What does 5G mean for business networks?

There is a lot of technology generating excitement for more applications than we could hope to name. One central theme to virtually all of that technology is an increased demand for data and the need of higher bandwidth for connectivity. More devices than ever are actively communicating, and they are placing massive burdens on existing infrastructure.

Copper networks and 4G wireless have a shelf life. Within the next couple of years, they will no longer be able to service standard demands — much less cutting-edge applications. Ultimately, we all need a network that is built for the new age of connectivity. That network will run on 5G.

The CK Daily – Cleaning out the Garage

Happy Wednesday!

This weekend was so fruitful! My best friend from college came and hug out with us for the weekend in our new house and it was so fun to show her around the area.

My husband and I also cleaned up our garage! Since moving we’ve been putting tons of empty totes in there and a pile of things we needed to donate. We also had some decorations that my husband had in his college dorm and has been saving for the day we actually have a garage – and it’s here! We cleaned things up, put up the decorations and the tested if our cars fit. Our small car passed the test, but not our SUV. It’s a pretty wide 2-car garage, so for now we will put the car on one side and maybe put our workout equipment on the other side.

What do you use your garage for?

Ashley

The CK Daily – Getting Back into the Routine

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday!

Today is feeling a lot like a Monday for me as I ended up having to take a day off yesterday to take care of some personal errands and family responsibilities. My day started early and I think I spent at least 50% of it in the car driving all over the place to different appointments and such! It was far from a relaxing day off and, needless to say, I was exhausted by the end of it! I’m very thankful to be getting back to a normal routine today, even if I am starting the week already feeling behind! Looking forward to getting caught back up so I can breathe a little easier!

Hope everyone has an awesome and productive week!

Learning Center Article – Routers vs Modems

When you’re building a network, there are a few essential components that show up in every design, especially if this network accesses the internet.

Somewhere along the line, you have to attach a modem. It’s essential for internet connectivity. Assuming you use more than one device with this network, you probably also need a router. Each of these devices is essential, and they are often combined together into a single networking device.

But, what are they really doing? What are the key differences between modems and routers?

The CK Daily – Birthday Traditions

Good Monday morning!

My daughter’s birthday party was a success! She ended up having 17 of her friends show up at the skating rink and had an amazing time. After her party, we went out for pancakes, which is now becoming a unique birthday tradition. She had her first chocolate chip pancake on her third birthday and has been loving pancakes ever since.

I thought about how she’s growing up so fast over the weekend, and I know that sounds a bit cliché, but maybe it seems that way because I’ve been an adult for so long. It seems like my children are changing and us adults are just staying the same (well I take some of that back – growing older does have some changes as well… I do see a bit more grey in my hair and things just hurt when I wake up).

Anyways do you have any birthday traditions or birthday traditions you share with your children if you have children?

Learning Center Article – Best Practices for Data Center Security in 2022

If you looked at data center security best practices only a few years ago, the leading trends and advice would be dramatically different from the leading areas of focus today. Everyone in IT knows that things change fast, but it feels like change has accelerated.

Here’s an example. Network security was the most important thing as recently as 2019. While it’s still paramount, security threats have shifted away from direct attacks. Social engineering and grid stability are actually more important today.

With all of that in mind, there are four up-to-date best practices that can help you think about how things have changed and what you can do to keep up.

Happy Thursday! We are inching closer and closer to the weekend. Do you have any fun weekend plans you are gearing up for?

In This Issue: Learning to be Flexible | 19-inch rack mount kit for Cisco ISR 4330 | Difference between FCoE and FCIP | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Learning to be Flexible

Happy Thursday morning, everyone!

Ever had one of those weeks where you had everything planned out and it looked like everything was going to fall into place and then “BOOM” one thing happens and it sets off a chain reaction and throughs off your whole week…even the small things? Yeah, that about sums up my week this week. It’s been a great week but nothing (and I do mean nothing) has gone the way I had planned it at the beginning of the week. My mom tested positive for covid then my brother tested positive for covid this week, so that threw off some of the things that they had to have done which fell to me to have to take care of those things for them, which threw off the things that I needed done and so on and so on…

Flexibility is the key! I don’t like it sometimes, but that is just life I guess. Haha! But seriously, I used to get all worked up and frustrated when things didn’t go as planned or things and time being out of place. It would throw me off and I hated feeling that way. (That is one of my OCD quirks…everything has its place and order. I know there are others out there that deal with this that completely understand where I am coming from.) But, over there years, I have learned to go with the flow. Control what I can and make the best of what I can’t control. No sense in getting worked up, upset, or angry over stuff I can’t control. If I do that, I can’t think clearly enough to handle the curveball and make the best decision for the situation. Not easy all the time, like this week, but it is a part of life.

I hope the rest of your week and weekend go smoothly and “as planned”. I am planning on making the best of the rest of my week and I hope you do as well.

Learning Center Article – Difference between FCoE and FCIP

For enterprise operations, data management is an essential operation, and it requires powerful, robust designs in order to meet demand. That is why storage area networks (SAN) are so common. With SAN, you will often find that multiple types of connections are necessary to serve every need of the system, so you will be working with copper connections and fiber optics simultaneously. When those different infrastructures need to communicate, you need methods that bridge the gap.

When it comes to building connections between fiber channels and Ethernet, you have a few different options. Two of them are FCoE and FCIP. These represent dramatically different approaches to creating and maintaining cross-system communications, and it’s important to understand each of them in order to inform any networking decisions you make down the line.
