The CK Daily – Family Fun, Delicious BBQ, and the Birds of St. Augustine 🤩

Happy Monday!

It was a bit of a scorcher this weekend, so we spent most of our time indoors. I visited my parents on Saturday for an early Father’s day get together. We enjoyed some ribs and wings and my 4 year old daughter gathered everyone for a dance recital. My sister played some classical music on the piano providing music for the dance. It was very sweet.

On Sunday my kids woke me up with a delicious breakfast and we went to church shortly after. The rest of the afternoon was spent watching movies and playing games. It was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon!

Here are some bird photos I took while in St. Augustine. All of these, except for 1 were taken at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm.

I hope you have a great day and a great week!

Cris

Happy Friday! It’s been a wild week on the CK side of things so we’re all certainly looking forward to the weekend. Have weekend plans? Do share!

In This Issue: Who Are Your Picks? | Kendall Howard CPU Brackets | Servers vs. Desktop PCs | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Who Are Your Picks?

Happy Friday, folks! June is an exciting time in the world of sports! Both the NBA Finals and the NHL Stanley Cup are happening. So, who are you pulling for in each sport?

On the NBA side, the NBA Finals features two of the most exciting teams in the sport, and I’m excited to see how this series plays out. So far, the Celtics are dominating, but I still hope we get 7 games to watch!

I don’t regularly watch hockey, but the Stanley Cup should be exciting, so I’ll be tuning in to a few of the games. Which team are you pulling for?

Have a great weekend!

Chris

Learning Center Article – Servers Vs. Desktop PCs

If you ever shop for computer parts, you might see things for desktop PCs and servers lumped together. This isn’t always the case, but it’s easy enough to see these different parts come up in a single search.

Why is that? Are both types of computers using the exact same hardware? Can you mix and match between them? What’s the real difference between a desktop PC and a server in the first place?

When you have a lot of IT equipment, such as owning a data center or a large enterprise system, you need quality support to keep it running at its best.

For that support, you have a few options. You can rely on maintenance from the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). You can house your own support staff. Or, you can contract a third party to take care of it all for you.

Happy Wednesday & Happy Peanut Butter Cookie Day! Any peanut butter cookie fans out there? If not, what’s your favorite cookie to enjoy?

In This Issue: A Week of Adventure in the Florida Keys 🌴 | Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable | Understanding Server CPU Specs | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A Week of Adventure in the Florida Keys 🌴

Happy Wednesday, all!

Last week I got to enjoy some time in the Florida Keys! I know I’ve shared this before, but I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to travel down to this beautiful place. My great-grandmother and her husband purchased their home 50+ years ago and after the sudden passing of my great-grandfather, my great-grandmother lived the rest of her sweet life (102 years!) down there. And let me tell you the view in the front yard is incredible (picture below of right after the sunset)!

We’ve gone down there with the family each summer but this summer we did things a little different! The biggest change was that I had a baby, so of course he was joining us this year. I was a bit nervous about how he would do, if he would hate the ocean or love it, and how he’d feel about the boat and having to wear a life jacket all the time. He LOVED it! The boat was an immediate nap for him, which was quite funny. We’d get on the boat and head out somewhere and he’d be zonked in the back. He also loved the water, looking around, and really just everything. It was such a blessing!

Snorkeling is also something else we love doing while we’re there. It’s crazy what you see under the water! We went to a place called Christ of the Abyss. Super cool. While we were snorkeling we saw about 8 divers below us. I think this gave us all the itch to consider getting divers certified!

Here are a few other fun things we did:
-Took a boat drive through toilet seat cut.
-Went to the wild bird sanctuary!
-Enjoyed some delicious coffee.
-And fed the tarpon at Robbie’s!

Anyway – overall it was a great time! We saw some incredible ocean life, enjoyed some good seafood, of course, had a slice or two of key lime pie, and just enjoyed time together as a family!

Hope you have a great week!

Ashley

Servers are essential for so many business applications these days. If you rely on your servers for anything, then you tend to rely on them for everything.

When you’re shopping for servers (or looking to upgrade your hardware), you’re going to have to compare a lot of different specifications, and one of the most important components to analyze is the central processing unit (CPU).

Happy Tuesday & Happy National Corn on the Cob Day! Roasted corn on the cob anyone?! 🌽

In This Issue: Chasing Your Dreams 💭 | Cisco Hard Drive | FAQ – Simplex vs Duplex Fiber Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Chasing Your Dreams 💭

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

I took some time off last week to enjoy a family vacation to Hilton Head Island! If you’ve been reading the CK Daily for a while, you know HHI is one of my favorite places on earth! There’s just something about it that is so relaxing and instantly puts me in a good mood!

We were extremely fortunate to have fantastic weather the entire trip which meant lots of time outside running, biking, enjoying the beach, and laying by the pool! As I was enjoying the pool one day, I struck up a conversation with an older gentleman who was busy putting out some new pool chairs. It turns out he is the president of the HOA for the neighborhood we were staying in, and he informed me that he’s 81 years old which was shocking because he didn’t look a day over 60! He told me that he retired young and moved to HHI in 1990, paying only $150k for his home which is now likely valued at closer to $800k-$900k. He said the laid-back feel of the island keeps him young and active, and he feels so fortunate to have had so much time living there.

It was pretty inspiring to hear his story of making his dream come true and hearing how he has thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! I told him I was happy for him (although maybe a tiny bit jealous too 😉). Although things are very different now, the conversation definitely reminded me to keep my dreams in view and always be working towards them. Maybe someday I’ll get to follow in his footsteps and have a place of my own there!

What dreams are you working towards!?

Rebecca

Learning Center Article – FAQ – Simplex vs Duplex Fiber Cables

When you’re choosing cables for fiber optics, you have to get a few things right. You might be tempted to look for the cheapest cables you can find. After all, saving money is important.

But, price differences usually exist for a reason, and if your cheap cables aren’t designed for the network you have in mind, you’ll run into trouble.

The CK Daily – The Start of a Great Summer Ahead

Happy Monday!

It’s been a while since I’ve shared an update and a lot has happened. The week of Memorial Day we went to St. Augustine, Florida to spend some much needed R&R and to kick off the summer. The Saturday before we had left for our trip I participated in a Pokemon league cup and was able to pull off a 4th place finish, which is far better than the 2nd to last place finishes I’ve found myself in the past tournaments.

We booked a hotel on St. Augustine Beach, which was about 15 minutes away from the downtown area. The beach was quite nice, not crowded at all and we spent most of our vacation either at the pool or on the beach. We also visited the Castillo De San Marcos (a fort built in the late 1600s) and that was a highlight of the trip for my daughter who has a love for historical things.

I enjoyed the St. Augustine Alligator farm, but not because of the Alligators. What they should highlight more is that it is a massive migratory bird rookery/nesting area. We saw Great egrets, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, snowy egrets, and all manner of other birds. I took some photos that I’ll share next week.

We took the week after our vacation to recover and then went to a small family reunion over the weekend, where some of my wife’s family from Montana came to visit. It’s definitely been a great start to the Summer.

Hope to have some more adventures soon. I hope you have a great day and a great week!

Cris
