CK Daily – 08.18.2025

August 18, 2025 by CablesAndKits

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? We’re diving into a new week—one task at a time. Let’s make it a productive one!

In This Issue: A Pokémon-Filled Weekend | Deal of the Day | RCA Dual Female to Female Coupler | Cat5 vs. Cat6 Ethernet Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A Pokémon-Filled Weekend

Happy Monday!

It was definitely a busy weekend for us! On Friday the World Pokémon Championships kicked off, and my friends and I had a little digital watch party on Discord. To make it even more fun, I ran a contest to see who could accurately predict which decks would be played and which archetype would take the win. It added a whole new level of excitement to the weekend!

Saturday morning our local game store held a World Championship celebration tournament, and my wife and daughter decided to join in just for fun. They did great, and somehow all three of us ended up in the top 8! It was a casual event, but still a blast—and we each walked away with a nice promo Pikachu card, which was a cool bonus. Later that day we celebrated my oldest daughter’s birthday a little early at my parents’ house.

The rest of the weekend was pretty much all about Pokémon. I caught as many matches as I could and on Sunday we watched the final rounds together. There were also some exciting updates about the upcoming 2026 Pokémon season, which looks like it’s going to be another amazing year for the TCG.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Cris

We made it to Friday—and it’s National Relaxation Day! 🧘‍♀️ Whether you unwind with a book, a walk, or your favorite show, today’s a good reminder to hit pause and recharge. How do you like to relax after a long week?

The CK Daily – To Those Still Showing Up

Friday’s here! How’s everyone doing so far?

This week hasn’t been the easiest for me—there’s been a lot going on that needed my immediate attention. While scrolling through Facebook, I came across the term functional depression. It describes a state where someone feels emotionally low but still manages to keep up with daily responsibilities like work and social life. On the outside, they seem “fine” or “coping,” but inside, they may be dealing with deep emotional exhaustion. Honestly, that resonated with me a lot lately.

If that’s you right now, I just want to say—you’re not alone. It takes a lot of quiet strength to keep showing up every day, and that’s something worth recognizing. So here’s a virtual hug from me to you.

As we head into the weekend, I hope you find moments—big or small—that bring you rest, comfort, and maybe even a smile. You deserve it. 💛

Learning Center Article – What are the Advantages of OM5 Fiber?

As these systems grow, infrastructure will continue to be put under greater strain in order to keep up with the trend. The only way forward is for data centers and high-end data applications to continue to deploy the most advanced communication techniques available. Right now, that requires the use of fiber optics, and for indoor applications, OM5 fiber is often the best of the best.

Happy Thursday! On a hot summer day, a creamsicle hits the sweet spot. Happy National Creamsicle Day! What’s your go-to frozen treat?

In This Issue: Chimps, Tubing, & Back to School! | Deal of the Day | Speak-On Male Connector | OM5 Fiber | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – Chimps, Tubing, & Back to School!

Happy Thursday!

Last week, I snuck away for a few days in the mountains with some friends and we stumbled on a hidden gem, the Project Chimps Hiking Trail. Imagine your typical hike, but on top of the birds chirping you hear hoots of chimpanzees! The trail is part of a chimp sanctuary in the North Georgia Mountains, and they have four hiking loops that range for easy to difficult. If you’re lucky, you can even spot chimps from the overlook!

Sadly, we were trying to beat the rain so we took the shorter trail, but I definitely want to go back and bring binoculars to see the chimps! Although our hike was short, we still managed to soak up plenty of sunshine while tubing down the river. In the evenings, we kept it simple with grilled hotdogs and playing board games like “Break the Ice”. It was a nice last getaway before the semester started.

Now that I’m officially back, today is only my second day of classes for my 3rd year of college! Even though I’m already missing mountain views and sunshine, it’s time to switch gears and put in the work. Here’s to making the most of summer memories while getting it done!

Learning Center Article – What is OM5 Fiber and How is It Different Than OM4 & OM3?

There are more tools than ever to help you optimize every corner of your network. At the same time, increasing options make it more difficult to find satisfaction with the choices you make. That holds true with selecting your fiber cables. So far, the options between singlemode and multimode networks were self-selecting. As for multimode systems, the somewhat narrow range of variety made that selection a little easier as well. Now, OM5 is on the rise, and it brings with it a new niche combination of performance and cost-effectiveness.

Happy mid-week! 👋 How’s your week going so far? Whether you’re powering through or pacing yourself, take a moment to check in—with your goals, your energy, and yourself. You’ve got this!

In This Issue: A week of Nostalgia and Swiftie News!! | Deal of the Day | Round Plug Solder Type | Fiber Optic Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A week of Nostalgia and Swiftie News!!

Happy Wednesday!

Love her or hate her, your girl is a big ole’ Swiftie so I am living for all the big news of the week! TS12?! I am PUMPED! I’m sure I’ve said this here before, but Taylor Swift and her team know what they’re doing when it comes to all things marketing. Of course, the fan base plays a big role, but it had to be built in some way!

Also, am having some major nostalgia this week because of the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato reunion where they sang Camp Rock songs….amazing. I grew up watching Camp Rock on repeat and through the years, lots of Disney stars have gone down various paths of life, but it’s so humbling to see them reunite and allow fans to go back down memory lane after (and I’m sure there is something unique and incredible about it for them as well!).

It’s also a big week because our little guy is going to kick-off his first day of pre-school tomorrow. My heart is swelling and the tears in my eyes might swell a little bit to at how quickly he’s growing up, but I’m so excited for him. We had his open house last night and watching him with the other kids was so sweet. I know it’s going to help his growth immensely and before we know it, he’s going to be a full blown adult. But for now, I will hold onto every tiny piece of him that I can.

All of this to say – BOY is it a week of emotions! I have some big life changes and moves coming up that are scary but also a big deal for our family. I’m so grateful for the roller coaster of life that we’re on, but also ask for prayer in the transition of it all. If I can be praying for you this week, please let me know!

Ashley

The CK Daily – Sprints, Sleepovers, and Swings for a Cause

Good morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is having a great week!

I had a wonderful weekend! I’ve been slacking a bit on running lately, but I was able to get in a quick run on Saturday morning which felt great. I’m excited to get back to making it a consistent part of my week! I also got to have my nieces for a sleepover on Saturday which is always so much fun. I don’t get to see them that much these days, so I always cherish the times we do have together! Unfortunately, the kindergarten germs seem to have struck my youngest niece and she was dealing with a virus so she didn’t feel her best, but we still had a great time being together!

Today I am actually out of the office as I’ll be participating in the iServe Ministries golf tournament! I play just about every year and it’s always so much fun! Normally it’s blazing hot, but today is actually cool and overcast so it will be a different experience! I’m very much looking forward to it! iServe does amazing work in Jackson County, GA serving families in need with food and other resources. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, you can check them out here!

The CK Daily – Cuisine, Cards, and a Curveball

Happy Monday!

This weekend was a little busier than usual for me. On Saturday, I checked out a new card shop in my area with one of my friends. It was a nice change of pace from my usual spots, and I got to meet some new people in the process. Later that evening, I had dinner with some older friends at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants—Asia Garden in Dacula, GA. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend it. They have the best Mongolian beef I’ve ever had, hands down.

I’m also looking forward to this coming weekend because the World Pokémon Championships are happening in Anaheim! I won’t be able to attend in person, but thankfully they’ll be streaming the games live. It’s always fun to watch the top players in the world face off—plus, you pick up some strategies along the way.

Sunday took a bit of a turn when my youngest came down with a slightly elevated temperature and a stomachache. I think it’s just a stomach bug going around, but sadly it means she’ll have to miss the first day of the second week of school. Hoping she bounces back quickly!

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Learning Center Article – What is DWDM?

Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) is a breed of fiber optics that is specifically geared towards extremely data-intense operations. Meeting those data-intense needs is primarily accomplished through two facets of DWDM design. For starters, this is multiplexed fiber optics. That means the cables are paired in a way that allows data to stream in two directions at the same time. In other words, any node on the network can send and receive information simultaneously.
