CEO Daily Update – 9.28.2020

September 28, 2020 by Jason Gazaway

Craig’s Sabbatical | GLC-LH-SMD | Cleaning Wipes | Did you Know?

Happy Monday
!  – I have a special message for everyone today.

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email.

I had an MRI on my knee last week. It still hurts pretty bad, even though I’ve had the steroid shot. The results came back as Bursitis which is:

…a painful condition that affects the small, fluid-filled sacs — called bursae (bur-SEE) — that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Bursitis occurs when bursae become inflamed.

Apparently, the treatment is RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), and it can take up to a couple of MONTHS to clear up! Life is definitely more challenging when walking, or bending your leg, is painful.

In the meantime, I still struggle with the Crohn’s every day. I’ve gotta focus on getting that under control. It’s prob going to take some very intentional effort with food, supplements, doc visits, etc. I’m also tired more than I should be (likely Crohn’s related) and my brain also doesn’t seem to be fully in gear.

I tend to ignore my health issues expecting them to go away and focus on work or getting things done instead. When I was younger, they usually did go away but not so much anymore! Focusing on work while constantly dealing with the health issues has really worn me down and I have a hard time staying as motivated as usual.

So, I came to the conclusion that I’m going to take some time off. I don’t know how much yet. Probably a month, and more if needed. I’ve got a great team that can keep on keeping on without me just fine. I just need to get off the treadmill for a little while and do a reset. I am hopeful that I could make some significant progress with healing and come back as good as new.

I may still do a couple things CK related, but for the most part I am parking everything for a while. I need to. I’m sure I’ll be mentally processing strategy which always happens when I take time off, and that’s a good thing anyway. Many leaders take a sabbatical at some interval. Perhaps that’s what this is.

This email will carry on, but without me for a little while. I have a handful of people who want to contribute to it in my absence and I’m sure you’ll enjoy what they have to say. Replies to this or other emails will be seen so don’t be shy if you need something!

Pray for my health …. And I’ll see you again soon.

 – Craig

A little something to brighten your Monday. (from Jason, our Ecommerce Manager)

Did you know…?

Here are a few interesting facts based on studies that you might have not known. (I know I didn’t!)

  • The smell of an orange or eating one can reduce stress by over 70%.
  • Sharks are the only animals that never get sick. They are immune to every known disease including cancer.
  • Chocolate contains phenylethylamine (PEA), the same chemical released in your brain when you fall in love.
  • You can’t hum while holding your nose.
  • (I bet you just tried the above bulletpoint.)
  • The name for the Pringles shape is a hyperbolic paraboloid. Once you pop, you can’t stop.
  • A snail can sleep for 3 years.

Ok, ok…enough crazy knowledge for one day. Have a great Monday, folks!

We hope you are enjoying (and will continue to enjoy) these emails. If you are, we would appreciate it if you let us know! Respond to this email with your feedback. If not, or if you have ideas for how to improve, by all means, please let us know, as well!  As always, please continue to let us know how we can be of service to you. If you need assistance with something, advice, or even if you just need someone to pray for you, we (including Craig) are here and listening.

Blessings,

The CK Team

COVID / Tech / Business News to Start Your Day With:

  • Right at 33,347,800 cases worldwide, with 24,657,200 people who have recovered, with 1,003,000 deaths AND 7,321,500 cases in the US with over 4,560,700 people have recovered, with 209,454 deaths.
  • More than 35,000 airline employees will be out of a job come Thursday, as the industry faces its worst crisis since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
  • Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran has ordered Miami-Dade County Public Schools, one of the nation’s largest districts, to reopen earlier than planned.
  • Dow futures were pointing to a 350-point gain at Monday’s open, which would add to Friday’s 359-point, or 1.3%, advance for the 30-stock average as tech shares bounced. The S&P 500 was up 1.6%. The Nasdaq was the real winner Friday, up nearly 2.3%. Monday could see less trading volume than normal due to the Yom Kippur holiday.
  • Amazon Prime Day will take place Oct. 13 and 14 this year, the company announced Monday. The company postponed its biggest shopping day of the year after the coronavirus generated unprecedented strain on its warehouses and shipping and logistics networks. The timing means the holiday shopping season will kick off earlier than ever.
  • The U.S. government has reportedly imposed restrictions that require suppliers to get an export license to sell certain equipment to China’s biggest chipmaker SMIC. The move threatens to hit at the heart of China’s plans to boost its domestic semiconductor industry, a need that has been accelerated by the trade war with the U.S. SMIC is seen as a critical part of China’s ambitions and the commerce department’s sanctions could hold back the company’s development for several years.
