CK Daily – 04.21.2022

Today’s the perfect day to “high-five” everyone you see to celebrate National High-Five Day! There’s no better feeling than a high-five after a big accomplishment. Out of all the triumphant gestures, such as the fist bump, fist pump, end zone dance, and chest bump – the high five stands in a class all its own.

The CK Daily – Virtual Race Update

Happy Thursday!

Spring is def in full effect around here! Between the posts about planting and pollen, you can tell what is on everyone’s mind. As with many places, Georgia tends to skip right over Spring usually and go straight to Summer which means we have the extreme pollen along with the blazing heat all at the same time. This year has been a bit different. We have actually had a Spring with cooler temps at night and decently warm temps during the day. This weekend it starts heating up a bit. We are supposed to get into the low to mid-80s. For me, this has been the perfect weather to get out and run and do stuff outside. So far, the pollen hasn’t affected me too much. Probably from being in a new neighborhood where the trees and flowers are still pretty young. Hopefully, that lasts.

Figured I would give an update on where my team and I are at with our virtual race through Iceland. With injuries, traveling, and just life in general, I have teamed up with two other guys from my running group who are doing the race to help all of us push through it. We are just over 55% through the 828 miles. We are sitting at 456 miles completed. Getting over that 50% mark was a huge morale booster. I personally am sitting at 208 miles completed. It is going a bit slower than I had hoped since I had to take 3 weeks off (out of the 12 so far) because of my knee. With all of that, I am pretty proud of those numbers. The knee is about 95% back to normal, so I am hoping to start cranking out some higher numbers again soon. I am debating on doing something I said I would never do. I am toying with the idea of doing a marathon in September. Still not sold on the idea yet. I have done many half-marathons but never really had the desire to do a full. We will see how things continue to develop with the knee and virtual race over the next month or so.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and an awesome weekend. Make the best of it!

Jason

The CK Daily – Plant Hacks

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. I enjoyed the incredible weather we had on Easter but have not been a fan of this cold weather we’ve had the last few days. I hope warm weather is in our future!

Not too long ago, my husband and I made a big move from Ohio to Georgia. One of my biggest worries about the move was all of my plants! They survived the move, but two of them have been struggling lately. One is a fiddle leaf fig tree and the other is a rubber plant! They were previously thriving but have been pretty shaken since the move, so I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on what could be going on.

Do you have any “magic” tricks or hacks that seem to always work with any plant you have? I am stumped by these two, so am hoping I can find the trick soon!

Ashley

The CK Daily – Allergy Season

Good Morning and Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend!

I was able to attend the G-day game at UGA on Saturday and got to enjoy some family time on Sunday so I’d call that a win! I must admit I’m struggling a bit today as I ran out of allergy medicine yesterday and thought I could just tough it out for a day… Needless to say, that was a bad idea.

I didn’t realize how much Spring allergies affected me until I tried to get some sleep last night. My lungs felt like they were full of pollen, I kept coughing, my eyes were watering, and my skin was super itchy. It was a rough night, to say the least! Luckily I made an early morning run to the store for some medicine which I’m hoping will kick in soon! Ready for some relief so that I can have a productive day! Probably will need more than the usual amount of caffeine to make that happen 😉

Learning Center Article – The Best Ethernet for Gaming

It’s good that you are looking at Ethernet internet options. As a gamer, you likely understand the horror of laggy games. When it comes to home networks and gaming, latency is a huge deal and can make or break your whole experience – and in the game, whether you live, die, or succeed. Latency is always with us; it’s just a matter of how significant it is. Wi-Fi simply isn’t as stable as Ethernet, and it leads to slower effective experiences due to higher chances of interference. Slow internet speeds can ruin the entire game, so you want something that can keep up. At the same time, you don’t want to spend a life’s fortune just on cables.

The CK Daily – Successful Weekend & a Plant Update!

Happy Monday,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a great Easter. Ours was pretty busy filled with visiting family and enjoying a kids’ musical. For the last 8 weeks or so, my daughter has been practicing Tuesdays after school in an extracurricular program called Dreambox Theatre. Saturday was the performance of her Superhero musical, and she did awesome and remembered all of her lines and choreography. I am very proud of her!

On Easter Sunday we visited family and went to church. I’m in awe of being reminded every year of the story of Christ’s resurrection and how Jesus, who could have literally done everything and anything, chose to die a painful death to pay for all of our sins. Not only that, but Jesus Christ rose from the dead three days later! Sometimes we take that for granted and think Easter is just one of those “candy” holidays, but if you look beyond the bunnies and eggs, and really think and reflect on the resurrection story, it’s one of the most important stories in the Bible as it is foundational to the Christian faith.

Woah, did not mean to pulpiteer there, here’s a Houseplant update: All of the houseplants are thriving! The one that is thriving the most is “Waffle” the purple waffle plant (Hemigraphis alternata) – it has probably grown about 4 inches and has large leaves. Something interesting I noticed was that at night the purple color really comes out of the underside of the leaves, but during the day the leaves go back to a greenish color. It’s kind of wild. The other plants Peter the rabbit foots fern and Toni the fittonia have grown quite a bit as well, but not as robust as Waffle. That’s all I have for today, I hope everyone has a great week!

Learning Center Article – Best Practices for Cable Management in Data Centers

Every network administrator in the world has a horror story about cable management. In data centers, those horror stories grow into genuine nightmares. If enough people work on a system for a long enough period of time, the cables will eventually turn into some type of Ethernet vine monster. Today we wait and reflect. Happy Good Friday, CK Family. We are praying for your hearts as we reflect on all that He has done for us. We hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend!

The CK Daily – Good Friday

It’s Good Friday! What’s does today mean to you?

As a follower of Christ, today is the day that we remember the crucifixion of Christ, the day that He suffered on our behalf. We also know that Sunday came, and He Arose! But imagine for a moment that you were there. Sunday had not come. It would likely have been hard to hold onto the faith it would take to believe that he would rise. Yet, they still believed. John 3:16 comes to mind. It says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

We’re on the other side of history and know that Sunday came, and Jesus wasn’t in the tomb! So while today is a day of remembrance for the Man who gave his life for you and me, we know that Sunday is coming!

Please take 3 minutes to listen to this video; It’s Friday…But Sunday’s a coming!

Have a great Easter!

Chris

Learning Center Article – Managed vs Unmanaged Switches: Which do you need?

Switches are one of the core pieces of almost any major network. They manage traffic routing for Ethernet-connected devices. As such, they provide stable, fast means of communication for any device across the network.

If you run a business network, you’ll need some kind of switch, and when you look into it, you’ll find that there are two competing types of switches: managed and unmanaged.

The CK Daily – Favorite Easter Candy

Happy Thursday!

As Ashley mentioned yesterday, this week is very special as we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus and the meaning behind his sacrifice. As always, there is a ton of discussion about Easter-related stuff on the news, on social media, and on TV. In a little bit different spin on a topic for this time of year, I read an article on top Easter candy. It seems Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs took the top spot again this year followed closely by Cadbury Eggs and then chocolate bunnies. My personal favorites are Sweetart Jellybeans and Nerd Jellybeans. I like chocolate but I always tend to lean towards the tart candy. And I can proudly say I have NEVER had a Peep in my life (as far as I can remember) and I intend to keep it that way!

If you have followed my posts long enough you know I try to be healthy and mindful of what I eat. I know jellybeans aren’t too bad for you. I came across this list of what 100 calories of different top Easter candies look like:

So…besides the calorie numbers, what’s your favorite Easter candy to snack on this time of year?

Have an amazing rest of the week and Easter weekend!

Jason
