CK Daily – 08.13.2025

August 13, 2025 by CablesAndKits

Happy mid-week! 👋 How’s your week going so far? Whether you’re powering through or pacing yourself, take a moment to check in—with your goals, your energy, and yourself. You’ve got this!

In This Issue: A week of Nostalgia and Swiftie News!! | Deal of the Day | Round Plug Solder Type | Fiber Optic Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – A week of Nostalgia and Swiftie News!!

Happy Wednesday!

Love her or hate her, your girl is a big ole’ Swiftie so I am living for all the big news of the week! TS12?! I am PUMPED! I’m sure I’ve said this here before, but Taylor Swift and her team know what they’re doing when it comes to all things marketing. Of course, the fan base plays a big role, but it had to be built in some way!

Also, am having some major nostalgia this week because of the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato reunion where they sang Camp Rock songs….amazing. I grew up watching Camp Rock on repeat and through the years, lots of Disney stars have gone down various paths of life, but it’s so humbling to see them reunite and allow fans to go back down memory lane after (and I’m sure there is something unique and incredible about it for them as well!).

It’s also a big week because our little guy is going to kick-off his first day of pre-school tomorrow. My heart is swelling and the tears in my eyes might swell a little bit to at how quickly he’s growing up, but I’m so excited for him. We had his open house last night and watching him with the other kids was so sweet. I know it’s going to help his growth immensely and before we know it, he’s going to be a full blown adult. But for now, I will hold onto every tiny piece of him that I can.

All of this to say – BOY is it a week of emotions! I have some big life changes and moves coming up that are scary but also a big deal for our family. I’m so grateful for the roller coaster of life that we’re on, but also ask for prayer in the transition of it all. If I can be praying for you this week, please let me know!

Ashley

There are primarily two types of fiber optic cabling in the IT space. Those two types of fiber optic cable are single-mode and multi-mode. An optical fiber cable is constructed of a core (inner layer), cladding (layer around the core), and jacket (coating around the cladding). Some layers of protective sheathing are added depending on the application and environment.

It’s Tuesday, everyone! Spin it old school—it’s National Vinyl Record Day! 🎶 Whether you’re into the crackle of classic rock, soulful jazz, or Motown magic, vinyl brings a charm that never fades. What’s your favorite song or album to listen to on vinyl?

The CK Daily – Sprints, Sleepovers, and Swings for a Cause

Good morning & Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is having a great week!

I had a wonderful weekend! I’ve been slacking a bit on running lately, but I was able to get in a quick run on Saturday morning which felt great. I’m excited to get back to making it a consistent part of my week! I also got to have my nieces for a sleepover on Saturday which is always so much fun. I don’t get to see them that much these days, so I always cherish the times we do have together! Unfortunately, the kindergarten germs seem to have struck my youngest niece and she was dealing with a virus so she didn’t feel her best, but we still had a great time being together!

Today I am actually out of the office as I’ll be participating in the iServe Ministries golf tournament! I play just about every year and it’s always so much fun! Normally it’s blazing hot, but today is actually cool and overcast so it will be a different experience! I’m very much looking forward to it! iServe does amazing work in Jackson County, GA serving families in need with food and other resources. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, you can check them out here!

The CK Daily – Cuisine, Cards, and a Curveball

Happy Monday!

This weekend was a little busier than usual for me. On Saturday, I checked out a new card shop in my area with one of my friends. It was a nice change of pace from my usual spots, and I got to meet some new people in the process. Later that evening, I had dinner with some older friends at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants—Asia Garden in Dacula, GA. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend it. They have the best Mongolian beef I’ve ever had, hands down.

I’m also looking forward to this coming weekend because the World Pokémon Championships are happening in Anaheim! I won’t be able to attend in person, but thankfully they’ll be streaming the games live. It’s always fun to watch the top players in the world face off—plus, you pick up some strategies along the way.

Sunday took a bit of a turn when my youngest came down with a slightly elevated temperature and a stomachache. I think it’s just a stomach bug going around, but sadly it means she’ll have to miss the first day of the second week of school. Hoping she bounces back quickly!

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week!

Learning Center Article – What is DWDM?

Dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) is a breed of fiber optics that is specifically geared towards extremely data-intense operations. Meeting those data-intense needs is primarily accomplished through two facets of DWDM design. For starters, this is multiplexed fiber optics. That means the cables are paired in a way that allows data to stream in two directions at the same time. In other words, any node on the network can send and receive information simultaneously.

The CK Daily – Why CK Feels Different

TGIF! 🎉 I hope your week’s been productive and you’re checking off those last few to-dos.

Speaking of work, I had my very first call this week with our boss here at CablesAndKits. I’ll admit—I was nervous while waiting for the meeting to start. What kind of boss will he be? It’s our first call, so you can’t blame me for imagining all sorts of scenarios.

But the moment he joined, the whole vibe changed. Before we even talked business, we swapped life stories. He even looked up my area on Google Maps out of curiosity! I’ve never experienced that kind of genuine interest from a CEO before. And honestly? Those are my kind of people.

Business is better when the human part comes first. I think that’s one of the secrets to CablesAndKits’ success—leaders who care about the people behind the work. Our founder isn’t just brimming with ideas; he’s invested in knowing his team.

Here’s to more leaders who value people as much as productivity. 💛

Have an amazing weekend ahead!

Learning Center Article – Wiring Ethernet Patch Panels

When you’re building a network, it’s often ideal to use a patch panel to direct cables and organize long Ethernet runs — especially if they go through walls, floors, and/or ceilings. Patch panels make cable management and network organization very easy over long periods of time, but you’ll need to wire the panels in order to put them into your network.

The weekend’s in sight—it’s Thursday! Hope you’re making progress and finding your groove. Keep going!

The CK Daily – Celebrations and Caesar Salad

Happy Thursday!

This past weekend was such a good one! I celebrated my birthday exactly the way I wanted to, with chicken alfredo and Caesar salad! It’s my all-time favorite meal, and it always tastes better when I don’t have to make it myself. We had a laid-back night at home, which is exactly what I needed after finishing up my online summer class for school. It was really nice to slow down a bit, eat good food, and enjoy everyone’s company. I felt so loved by my entire family and I’m so grateful that I got to spend time with them!

After the birthday fun, I packed up and made the drive back to my college town to get ready for the school year. I still have about a week before things officially kick off, which is perfect for me. It gives me plenty of time to get settled back in, run errands, organize everything, and get back into school mode. I’m already starting to make to-do lists and get my routine planned out for the semester!

I’m excited to be back and looking forward to making this semester a good one!

Learning Center Article – Understanding Ethernet Cable Gauge (AWG)

When you have to put a network together, you’re going to compare a lot of different components to try to squeak out better performance without spending obscene amounts of money. Because of that, you’re likely to consider using Ethernet for many (if not all) parts of your network. What you might not know is that Ethernet comes in different sizes. More specifically, you can get different thicknesses in your Ethernet cables, and that thickness actually matters a lot when it comes to cable functionality.

The CK Daily – The Big TWO!

Happy Wednesday! Hope you had a great weekend and are having a great start to the week.

This past weekend we celebrated the big TWO! Our little boy is growing up right before our eyes. We had a wonderful Lightening McQueen themed birthday party for him and boy did he love it. Our family really nailed it with showing up and showing out. To our surprise, they all showed up in Cars themed/character shirts and it was the sweetest!

We also now own, what feels like, every Lightening McQueen toy that you can grab on the toy isle. Talk about spoiled!

It’s truly unreal how fast time flies. Here’s to learning and teaching myself to soak up every ounce of time and enjoy all the little moments – no matter how big or small.

Learning Center Article – Does Copper Cabling Still Have a Place in Data Centers?

More than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are produced every day. That’s a mind-boggling number. Equally impressive is that roughly 90 percent of all data in the world was produced in the last two years. In the face of such overwhelming numbers, it often feels like the entire future of networking rests on the shoulders of fiber optics. While fiber networking is absolutely essential to handling massive, consolidated data streams, it’s a mistake to think that every network needs to completely convert. Ethernet still has a strong place in networking, and that holds true even for the most advanced data centers in the world.
