CK Daily – 12.15.2021

December 15, 2021 by CablesAndKits

Can you believe there are only 10 days until Christmas?! Where has the time gone? In the spirit of Christmas, do you have any traditions you’re looking forward to celebrating with friends or family? We’d love to hear about them!

In This Issue: 20 Days of Giving: Day 9 | 5ft Blue CAT6 Ethernet Patch Cables | News to Start Your Day

The CK Daily – 20 Days of Giving: Day 9

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. CK’s 20 Days of Giving is in full swing and I have enjoyed learning more about the organizations my fellow team members are giving to. We hope you have as well. The giving efforts I have gotten the privilege to be a part of at CablesAndKits over the past 9 years have been incredible.

I have chosen to give my CK team donation to Navigate Recovery. Over this past year, drug and alcohol overdose deaths grew over 30% in the US – and those are just the ones we know about. The pandemic, current financial situation, and day-to-day stresses have made it easier for people to fall into the trap and lies of addiction. Most of us have been affected by addiction in some way whether through a family member, friend, spouse, child, or maybe even yourself. It hurts and can be devastating to not only the person dealing with the addiction, but all of those around that individual as well. I am in that community of people affected by addiction and lost one of my best friends to it two years ago, so the work that Navigate, and other organizations like them, do is very close to my heart.

It is so important to be able to help and support organizations like Navigate Recovery that focus on not only helping the individual, but the families affected by addiction through strong community support. It takes the whole community to care for the whole community. That is what Navigate is doing through their Addiction Recovery Support Center, Peer to Peer Recovery Support Lifeline, Recovery Workplace Initiative, and Lightway Long-term Addiction Recovery Center for Women.

The CK Daily – 20 Days of Giving: Day 8

Good morning CK Team! I’m Christine Umali and I serve on the Customer Service Team. I’ve been with CablesAndKits for almost a full year, and in my short time have loved being able to be a part of the giving efforts.

I have chosen to give my CK team donation to Indianapolis Colts Foundation. I am not an active member of any organization/foundation here in the Philippines, but I am happy to support this foundation. My sister-in-law is living in the US and she is also supporting this foundation. She’s been living there for a long time and I understand that this is important to her. It is hard to live far away from her family and this foundation/organization helps her a lot.

Christine

The CK Daily – 20 Days of Giving: Day 6

Happy Monday! I hope you are enjoying learning about the organizations we get the joy of giving to this holiday season. Throughout my 6 years at CablesAndKits, it has been a joy to see the acts of giving we have done and the way it has impacted our community.

I have chosen to give my CK team donation to Alpa Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The ability to financially afford to attend a college institution of your choice debt-free is a dream of many. Thankfully, through many scholarships and family, this dream was a reality for me. I am giving to this organization as it is one that focuses on minorities like myself here in Gwinnett County and provides financial support by way of college scholarships.

I’d love to know who you are giving to this season!

Learning Center Article – What is the difference between LSZH and OFNR?

With the many types of fiber cables and then the components that make each of them up, it can be very confusing to know what fiber cable is the best overall for your business. One of the biggest questions we get is what is the difference between OFNR fiber cables and LSZH fiber cables. While they seem like the same thing, they are really two very different and very important attributes of fiber cables, and the same fiber cable can be both.

To understand these attributes better, we have to understand the construction of fiber cables and the different rating levels associated with fiber optic cabling. Learn more about the difference here.

Today is National Christmas Card Day! Today serves as a reminder to get your stamps, envelopes, and cards together so you can share your holiday cheer. Are you sending a Christmas card this year? We’d love to see it!

The CK Daily – 20 Days of Giving: Day 5

Who do we give to?

As you’ve probably heard discussed here before, we desire to positively impact the lives of others through our business. We desire and purpose to build good relationships with our team members, and we strive to maintain those relationships even if we part ways. Team members leaving is an inevitable part of business. In our experience, keeping a connection with those no longer on the team often leads to seeing them land in some exciting new adventures. Case and point: our first organizational highlight, Freedom Path Counseling.

Freedom Path was founded by Chad, a former CK team member, and his wife, Heidi. Chad served as our Warehouse Manager for several years. He left to pursue another opportunity and a few years after that, he and his wife founded Freedom Path. They offer a variety of counseling services on a “pay what you can afford” model subsidized through donations. They serve the same area where the CK office and many of our team members are located. We love what they do, love watching them grow, and that we get to support them in serving our shared community.

This switch is also easy to deploy and manage and supports advanced security services that include voice, video, and Cisco Borderless Network Services. Pretty sweet, right?

Learning Center Article – What is Switch Stacking & Why is it Important?

There are countless ways to design a network and meet the criteria it needs to follow. Not all of these methods will be as efficient or affordable as others. That’s why network administrators are constantly learning new concepts.

Switch stacking is commonly used in high-end networking, but many small and medium businesses are missing out on the technique. Taking a minute to learn more about it could reveal a better way to run your network that saves time and money while improving network functionality.

Alright, let’s settle this debate. Who has the best brownie recipe on the market? Today is National Brownie Day and if that’s not a reason to bake up your best pan of brownies, I don’t know what is. We’d love for you to share your recipes – send them to us so we can give them a try!

The CK Daily – 20 Days of Giving: Day 4

Our Giving Goal

2021 has been a good year for us for many reasons. I have joked with a few people that it only took 20 years for us to get it right, haha. But it truly does feel like we’ve been able to take a lifetime of lessons and hard-earned wisdom and put it into practice this year. Don’t get me wrong, we are not perfect and never will be. That’s one of those lessons in wisdom we’ve accumulated over the years –  there is no such thing as perfect!

Because we’ve had such a great year we wanted to celebrate by giving away some of our profits set aside for charitable giving in a fun way. We’re giving away $20,000 in December and each team member is directing an additional $200 to the charity of their choice. (Shout out to my friend who gave me this idea when her company did something similar for turning 75!) I would love to hear from you all about organizations that inspire you. What organization or causes do you give your time, money or other resources to and why? We’ll be sharing some of ours with you over this 20 Days of Giving, and we’d love to hear from you too!

Christin
