The CK Daily – It’s the CEO, Craig – I’m Baaaaack! (pt 1)
Hi everyone! It’s Craig, the founder and CEO. It’s been quite a while since I’ve written for the CK daily, but when Ashley asked me if I would be willing to write today, I instantly said yes. I’d already been thinking about writing for a week or two, so it was an easy yes.
For those that have been around a while, you’ll remember that I started the CK daily in 2020 as a way to keep customers up to date on the safety supplies (masks and such) that we were getting in every day. What a CRAZY time. We suddenly had a revenue drop, followed by tons of people asking if we could source masks, thermometers, hand sanitizers, etc., for them because they were not able to find them elsewhere. That was certainly not our line of business, but we jumped into action; I went into full-blown entrepreneurial mode, and we got it done.
We kept the CK daily going after that, and people really seem to like it. Part of the idea is to be personal with you. Yeah, we need to keep our brand in front of you, sure, but we love making what we do about relationships. It’s not always about selling stuff. Sometimes it’s about knowing what is going on in each other’s lives and cheering each other on.
During the Covid era, we all worked so hard. I was doing all the overseas sourcing, so I was working through the night due to the time difference, with 20-hour days and sometimes 2 days straight with no sleep. It was NOT a thankless job, though – we had SO many people write to us thanking us for getting them the supplies they needed, and it made it well worth the effort.
I was not personally a big fan of the masks, mandates, and such, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that people wanted and needed the products, and we were able to get them for them. That was very satisfying and fulfilling. And, to be honest, it was revenue that was very needed!
At the end of 2020, as things were cooling down, I was plain burned to the ground. I was tired – no, exhausted. I needed more than a break or a vacation. I needed to take a sabbatical. And that is what I did….
