CEO Daily Update – 8.11.2020

August 11, 2020 by Craig Haynie

Craig’s Birthday | Wipes are back! | Its time to go camping!

Happy Tuesday!

Welcome to the CablesAndKits CEO daily email. Read more about this email by scrolling to the very bottom.

Happy Birthday to me … happy birthday to me … happy BIIIIIIRRRRRTHHHHHHDAAAAAYYY dear MEEEEEEEE, Happy Birthday to MEEEEEE.

I get the idea that today might be my birthday. To be honest, almost every year I forget about it until the day of or maybe the day before. This year I actually remembered a few times last week. Odd! More below …

From Joe, our friendly Safety Supplies Product Marketer:

WIPES!!! We have a very limited supply of Progressive WipesPlus Disinfecting Wipes! With school starting and requesting parents to bring in wipes for the classroom this is a perfect product for you. More serious environments such as a classroom full of young children require a trustworthy disinfecting wipe. These are bleach-free and EPA registered ensuring maximum disinfecting power safely. Whether they’re used for a classroom, kitchen, or office they’re the perfect disinfecting wipe and comparable to big name brands like Clorox.

More 3M N95’s are live on the site as well! Like in the past, these are also in a very limited supply. It’s crazy how much has changed in these past few months. You used to be able to find masks like this in most everyday stores you walked into and now it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. These seem to be the next Clorox and Lysol wipes… Impossible to find! Act fast before they’re gone!

Some thoughts from Craig:

So, I turn 42 today, and let me tell you – time really does fly. On one hand it seems like just yesterday when I started this business. On the other, it seems like an eternity ago. I was 23. The other day my wife and I were going to look at Campers (See below) and we went to a place in Tucker, which is part of the Atlanta burbs. When I first moved here, I lived in the Tucker/Norcross area and worked nearby at a computer component distributor as a sales guy, but that’s another story. Anyway, we drove by the apartment complex I lived in back then and it was like “wow, that was like a lifetime ago!”. It’s funny how some things seem like yesterday and some things seem like eons ago.

Getting older sucks. In the last few years I have had more health issues than ever before. I had a hernia and surgery for it, major back issues (which are now mostly under control, for now, thank the Lord), tendon issues that resulted in weeks on a scooter to stay off my right foot, and of course bowel issues that resulted in a Crohn’s diagnosis that I still deal with daily. The point is that I can personally attest to the fact that getting older causes all sorts of issues! I don’t recommend it. …. Well wait, compared to the alternative I guess I do recommend it.

That being said, I wish I could go back in time and convince myself of all the things I should have done differently with my health. I should have gone to a chiropractor the moment I first had back issues. They could have prevented what became a herniated disc. I wish I would have eaten better and paid attention to reactions to food, and avoided years of food related sinus issues, plus have been in better shape and general health. I wish I would have tried to avoid antibiotics, which I believe are a huge cause of what turns into Crohn’s. I wish I would have made better and more committed decisions about goals, instead of just living so much in the moment or the season. So many things I would do over. But, at the same time I “wouldn’t change a thing”. You know how that goes … it all depends on your mood and who you are talking to, haha.

But, as Elton says in a song a handful of years ago on an album reflecting on his and Bernie’s (his lyricist) life, you can’t go back, and if you try it fails. Looking up ahead I see a rusty nail, a sign hanging from it saying truths for sale.

All you can do is talk to the younger people that will listen, and hope they listen. They won’t – but maybe they will remember somewhere along the way, perhaps at the first sign of trouble, and you’ll make an impact then. And, the older and wiser we get, the better choices we hopefully will make ourselves, which I think enriches the quality of life. Wisdom is rewarding.

Speaking of getting older, my kids are getting older as well. We have two girls – one 7 and one 4. It seems like they were born just yesterday – the time goes by so fast. We want to be more intentional about spending quality time doing fun things together to create memories while they’re young, so …..

We’re buying a camper!

For years I have had this vision of buying a camper and touring the country. Believe it or not, I’ve never gone camping. The only thing I/we have done is several years ago we had a camper on some land we owned and we would stay there once a month or so. It was 10 minutes from our house and the camper never moved! Somehow several years ago I suddenly had the idea of buying a motorhome and spending a month at a time on the road “going out west”, as well as traveling on the east coast. My wife homeschools our kids and I work from a laptop so we could be anywhere.

While we may end up with a motorhome some day we are looking at travel trailers right now. We have a GMC Denali and it will pull a descent size one. We bounce back and forth thinking / talking about buying a “Class C” motorhome vs a travel trailer. In fact, as I write this email (Monday night) we are looking online comparing all the options.

Part of the motivation is we have several friends who have campers that also have young kids. We want to go and make memories together with these families. The kids will not be this age forever, and the idea of creating memories, not only with our kids, but with friends, is pretty exciting.

It should be interesting to see how this turns out!

I hope you are enjoying these emails. If you are, I appreciate it when you let me know! If not, or if you have ideas for how to improve, by all means, please let me know! Sometimes I “can’t see the forest for the trees”.

As always, please let me know how I can be of service to you. If you need assistance with something, advice, or even if you just need someone to pray for you, I am here and listening.

Blessings,

Craig Haynie – CEO
