FiberIntroducing: MTP and MPO fiber cables
MPO (Multifiber Push-On) cables combine MPO connectors with fiber optic cable to increase the bandwidth, density, flexibility and reliability of networks by putting multifiber connectivity in one connector. Meet our new line of MTP and MPO fiber cables.
MPO vs MTP
MPO stands for Multifiber Push-On; MTP stands for Multifiber Termination Push-On. Functionally, both connectors work the same way, and both attach to fiber cables holding multiple strands in one jacket. MTP is a branded high-performance connector made by US Conec, with subtle design enhancements that reduce wear, lower insertion loss and improve signal performance. MTP and MPO cables can be used side by side. In simple terms, all MTP is MPO, but not all MPO is MTP.
- Expand capacity within an existing 10G network
- Migrate a network from 10G to 40G or 100G
- Connect two 40G or 100G devices
- Connect a set of optical distribution racks
Benefits of MPO and MTP cables
Our MPO and MTP line is built with high-quality, precision-built connectors that create a secure connection every time.
12 strands of high-quality optical fiber in a single cable make them ideal for space-constrained environments and easier to manage than traditional fiber.
Our 12-strand MPO connectors offer up to 12 times the density of standard connectors, for significant space and cost savings.
Cables come pre-terminated with MPO connectors, so installs are quicker and easier.
Understanding the connector
MPO connectors are made of a cable boot, crimp band, spring push, spring, female pin spacer or male pin clamp assembly, ferrule/boot kit, housing and dust cap. Several visible features help determine the right cable for your application.
- Key position
- Number of strands
- Alignment pins / sockets
- Male cables have alignment pins on the connector end
- Female cables have sockets without alignment pins
- Always use a male to female connection
- Female cables suit QSFP+ transceivers, which have pins built in
Polarity: because MPO cables hold multiple fibers in one jacket, several polarity types exist. The one you need depends on your application, but Type B is one of the most common because it makes direct connections between QSFP/QSFP+ transceivers.
MPO Essentials
Our MPO Essentials line is an excellent way to get started with MPO cables. It provides increased bandwidth and performance while keeping costs low.
MTP cables
Our MTP cables use high-performance US Conec MTP Elite connectors and Corning ClearCurve fiber for optimized performance, with a floating ferrule design that protects fiber contact, removable housing and an OFNP jacket.
