The C3850-NM-4-10G is a network expansion module designed to facilitate stacking capabilities using the organization's existing cabling infrastructure. This plug-in module is easy to install and configure, connecting to the switch via a high-speed stacking cable. It can be used in standalone or stackable mode, offering flexibility to meet specific network requirements.

The module provides four slots, supporting either four 10 G or four 1 G connections. By default, all ports within the C3850-NM-4-10G module operate at 10 G and should be configured as TenGigabitEthernet1/1/1 through TenGigabitEthernet1/1/4, even when using SFPs to operate at 1 G. This configuration optimizes network capacity and throughput. Please note that only the first four interfaces are valid, and the remaining four should not be used, even though they may be visible in the CLI.

It is worth mentioning that the C3850-NM-4-10G module is hot-swappable. When removing a module, it should be replaced with another network module or a blank module to ensure seamless operation. Additionally, this module is supported only on the 48-port Gigabit Ethernet models or the 12-port or higher 10 Gigabit Ethernet models.

An integrated wireless controller capability is included with the module, enabling it to function as a wireless controller for wireless access points (WAPs). This feature enhances its functionality and provides convenient wireless management capabilities within the network setup.
