The Cisco Nexus 2000 series line is a designed to act like remote line cards to another Nexus switch. These switches need a parent switch to function (compatibility below), but when enabled, they provide a unified communication structure between units and creates a modular system. The fabric system is essentially a extension of the Nexus fabric architecture enables physical topologies with the flexibility and benefits of both top-of-rack (ToR) and end-of-row (EoR) deployments.
This series provides two different types of ports; ports for end host attachment (storage box) and uplink ports (fabric interfaces) The fabric ports (noted in yellow on the switch) are designed to connect to an upstream parent Nexus switch. The Cisco Nexus 2000 Series is built for on going operation, with redundant hot-swappable power supplies and a hot-swappable fan tray with redundant fans.
