The cage nuts allow users to populate the rack (with square holes) with any of these screw types, or a combination of them, by using the correct nut. In addition, cage nuts eliminate the hassle caused by stripped threads in a drilled rack or enclosure. If the threads somehow strip, simply replace the nut with another nut.
