Cage nuts and screws are the "nuts and bolts" of your equipment room. They are responsible for making sure your equipment is safely attached to your equipment rack. This particular configuration (cage nuts and 10-32 screws) are not only the most common, but also one of the most flexible configurations.
There are three main types of screws. 10-32, 12-24 and M6. The screws here are 10-32 and account for most applications in the field today. This type of shank is void of threads for the first few "rounds" at the bottom. This allows easy insertion of the screw into the nut without having to get it "started" first.
The cage nuts allow users to populate the rack (with square holes) with any of these screw types, or a combination of them, by using the correct nut. In addition, cage nuts eliminate the hassle caused by stripped threads in a drilled rack or enclosure. If the threads somehow strip, simply replace the nut with another nut!
