The CK Daily – Landing on the Moon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Greetings and Happy Monday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopefully this week NASA\u2019s Artemis 1 should be launching and headed toward the moon. This will be the first moon mission that will have occurred in my lifetime (the last one I believe was Apollo 17 in 1972). Back in elementary school, the teachers showed clips of the moon landing and also John F. Kennedy\u2019s \u201cAddress at Rice University on the Nation\u2019s Space effort from 1962<\/a>“. I keep ruminating on a phrase in that address \u201cWe choose to go to the Moon”. The whole speech is inspiring, but the ending was very impactful \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This first unmanned Artemis mission is essentially a test run for the other Artemis. Artemis 2 will send people around the moon similar to today\u2019s launch and in 2024 and hopefully, if all goes well Artemis 3 will have people (including the first woman) landing on the lunar surface in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think I\u2019m more excited for my children in the prospect of landing on the moon. I want my daughters to see that with enough energy and effort the seemingly insurmountable can be overcome. I look at my daughters and hope that they will be inspired by the launches (whether that inspiration leads them to science or art, or whatever endeavor they choose) \u2013 and that they are inspired by the possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
