First and foremost, people really got a kick out of my coincidental coinage carnage commentary. I laughed pretty hard when Sue, our accounting manager, sent me a meme that was a picture of a fountain overflowing with coins and the caption \u201cCoin shortage was from people wishing 2020 was over<\/strong>\u201d. It\u2019s easy to get all flustrated (as our warehouse manager Chad says) due to our circumstances and try to find someone else to blame for our problems. I am VERY happy to finally have Lysol CANISTER disinfecting wipes<\/a> live on the site again! I\u2019m not sure what it is about canisters, but everybody seems to prefer them compared to flex packs. With that being said, these will probably be out of stock fairly soon so act fast<\/strong>! These are almost impossible to find right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Face shields<\/a> have seen two updates today. Both prices and quantities have been updated. We originally had only 1, 10, and 200 packs available but came to the conclusion that a 100-pack<\/a> should be an option as well, so we made it happen. These seem to be picking up a lot of traction due to businesses and public places opening back up. If you need anything special in the way of face shields please reach out. We can customize printing and colors, and we are looking into a medical-grade option as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Schools opening<\/strong> again it\u2019s become one of our main focuses to help keep your kids as safe as possible<\/strong>. Kid\u2019s mask will be on the way to our warehouse shortly, and for the ease of mind of parents we\u2019ve found one of the few suppliers that carry washable masks infused with ionized antibacterial silver to kill the baddies and ensure maximum protection! These will also be carried in adult sizes in various designs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the arrival of kids masks another thing we\u2019ve been focusing on is creating a \u201cone-stop shop<\/strong>\u201c for everything your kid will need to return to the classroom<\/strong> (similar to our employee care kits<\/a>). Google is at it again with a new Ranking Algorithm!

If you have a business then you probably have a website. Websites can be extremely powerful tools to generate leads, revenue, and to help people under your influence. With great power comes great responsibility. The days of creating a website and leaving it alone are long gone! (Especially when it comes to the world of SEO and Google.) To be open, this was an issue for us for a long time. We thought, “Well, the website is generating tons of traffic and revenue for us, so it must be just fine<\/strong>. Let’s leave it like it is”<\/strong> That mode of thinking is so wrong. So, we have constantly had to fix, change, and update the site, sometimes on a daily basis. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Now, on to the meat and potatoes of this. This past May Google announced that it was changing its ranking algorithm yet again (it is always changing and evolving, but this is a BIG one!<\/strong>). This time Google will be considering the users’ experience (called UX) on your site in the full algorithm and this will have a higher impact than ever before. If the “all-powerful” Google thinks your users will have a bad experience on your site, it will not be ranked as high as it could <\/strong>be or is right now<\/strong>. This new update will be called the “Google Page Experience”, and…it is a doozy! It will go live in 2021, but you know it is going to a big part of the new ranking factor if they are telling us about it now. In other words, Google is saying, “Get your ducks in a row now!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While most of the factors play a small part in the current algorithm, these are going to carry so much more weight now. These may seem like no-brainers, but sometimes they are not as easy as they seem or they have just been out of sight out mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Questions you need to start asking yourself about your site:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Is your website mobile friendly? – This should be a no-brainer now. Everything is mobile now and Google has penalized sites already for not being a mobile site already, but this one seems to look deeper to see if your mobile site is a logical, user-friendly design and if it is easy for your user to understand and use. Man, we had to jump through hoops a few years back when we really didn’t have a true mobile site and started feeling the effects of everything going mobile. We enlisted the help of a development agency to help us get the site up quickly so we didn’t tumble in our rankings but more importantly so our customers could actually not get frustrated with us and our site when using their phones. It was nuts!<\/li>
  2. Does your site\/pages load quickly? – No one wants to sit and wait for a website to load. I completely agree with this part of it! I know I personally will leave a site, news article, or a webpage if it takes more than a few seconds to load. It is so frustrating! I will be honest with you, this is something we are still working on with some of the pages on our site (we’ve come a long way!). Sometimes, there is so much info (content, images, videos, etc.) on a page that is helpful to customers but weighs down the page, and in turn, weighs down the site. These things are needed on the page but end up making the user’s experience painful while waiting for it to load. You have to look at newer image types like webp<\/a> or even “lazy load<\/a>” images and resources on the page to speed it up. Even cleaning up old Google Tags that are not in use anymore will help clean up the header of the page and get it to load quicker. Yep, that means doing some Spring Cleaning on your site and high trafficked pages. <\/li>
  3. Does your site\/webpages have intrusive ads or annoying pop-ups? – Both of these have their place on a website from a marketing perspective and can be very helpful to the customers (i.e. signing up for helpful emails, offering coupon codes, etc.) But, if there are so many of these pop-ups it can degrade the user experience and raise your bounce rate. Ads are another nice use for marketing, but the weight of the ad images when\/where they show up on the page or site can be more annoying than helpful sometimes. Google calls these Intrusive interstitials. You have probably been on a site right in the middle of reading an article (you, know, getting to the good part of it), or even when you first land on the page and BOOM an ad pops up and blocks your reading ability to even see what is actually on the page.<\/li>
  4. Is the site jerky or do things jump around when loading? – Visual stability of a page will become more valuable to rankings. Google will measure the Cumulative Layout Shift<\/a> (CLS) of the page. Sometimes this just affects the visual aspect of the site and page, but a lot of times this can greatly affect the functionality of the page. If users get frustrated trying to click a button or the content jumps up\/down or is “jerky”, that is a big no-no. <\/li>
  5. Is the site safe? – You may be thinking, “Of course, my site is safe!” This may be intentional and completely true, but depending on what you have linked to on that 3rd party page (sometimes links and videos that you share change without you knowing it or get hijacked), it can affect the safety of your site as well. Google looks at this as “Social Engineering”. HTTPS plays into this as well. All sites should be served on a secure connection now anyway. If not, DO THIS NOW! <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    There will be more released about what all this means as Google continues to evolve the algorithm leading up to the 2021 release, but these are some HUGE factors to work on or test on your site now. We have to look at our sites through the eyes of our readers and customers and not just what works well for our business. Hopefully, these tips will help you and your business get your website on track for this major change if it isn’t already. Again, these algorithms make websites a constantly moving target and have to be worked consistently. I know for us, these are things that I am having to watch for and work on daily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
