Referrals, Price Gouging, Nitrile Gloves, Clorox Wipes, & N95 Masks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Happy Thursday!  
 
WHAT \u2013 A \u2013 DAY<\/strong>. We have a monthly Sales and Marketing meeting that goes all day. It was a tiring meeting when we used to do it in person, but now that it is all video it\u2019s even more exhausting. Over 8 hours on video with several other leaders discussing our product lines, and our sales and marketing efforts. I love the meeting, but after 3 hours sleep the night before it was tough. But it is so great to take the time to work ON the business and not just IN it. I encourage you to find the areas of your business that need you to step out\/away\/back and give it some thought and consideration. If you don\u2019t have some sort of plan, any move is the right move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Price Gouging<\/strong> \u2013 We launched Clorox wipes yesterday and today I received 5-6 emails accusing us of price gouging. Ouch! That\u2019s a first. I tried to explain in yesterday\u2019s email but here goes again \u2026 These wipes are \u201cnormally\u201d $5-8 per canister in stores. Normally.<\/strong> Like when they have them and the world is not buying every one they can find and picking the shelves clean. Things are not \u201cnormal\u201d right now. We are not a Clorox \u201cpartner\u201d, and even if we were we would not be getting any inventory, or would be getting very little. The only option we have to buy and sell these wipes is when some enterprising entrepreneur calls us up and says \u201cI own 20,000 of these. I want X dollars. Do you want them?\u201d. I either say yes, and have them available for you at a higher price, or I say no, and don\u2019t. Just because the price is high does not mean we are price gouging. It means that our cost is sky high which is driving up the price. Let me be clear, we are going to make money on every item we sell or we are not going to sell it (donations aside). So we bought some at a high cost, marked them up a reasonable percentage (that is LESS than our standard margin on technology items), and offered them. Just because that price is higher than usual doesn\u2019t mean that we are price gouging. Please hear me! I am absolutely here to serve you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that being said, due to the volume of sales today I was able to increase our order quantity significantly and get the cost down, and in turn, get the price down. We want to make money doing business (else why would we do it), but we are going to try to save you money at the same time! In general, if our cost goes down, the price follows. If you have ANY questions, please reach out to me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend, who heard it from another<\/a><\/strong> –  Today in our sales and marketing meeting we spent several hours looking at data and trying to figure out WHERE customers come from that were cited as being the friend who they were \u201creferred by a friend\u201d by. Are you good and confused yet? It turns out that \u201cReferred by a Friend\u201d is one of the best performing referral sources for us (more than Google, E-mail, etc). We need to figure out where the people doing the referring came from so we can put more effort into those marketing channels to get more of those customers that refer people. Hopefully that makes sense but here is an illustration. \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John creates an account on the site. When asked how he heard about us he says \u201cReferred by a Friend\/Co-Worker\u201d. We don\u2019t know who that friend \/ co-worker is. But more than that, we don\u2019t know HOW the \u201cfriend\/co-worker\u201d heard about us. We need to get more people referring friends and co-workers, but we also need to figure out where we got the people that tend to be referrers of friends and co-workers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marketing is more of an art than a science but we are trying to \u201cunderstand\u201d as much as possible. Have you dealt with this? Any ideas?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Over 3,190,000 people worldwide have recovered and over 688,000 people in the US have recovered!<\/strong><\/li>
  • Vandalism and civil unrest have forced at least 70 coronavirus testing sites across the United States to close, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Most were located in private pharmacies in what are deemed \u201csocially vulnerable\u201d neighborhoods, intensifying health officials\u2019 fears that demonstrations against police violence could become a breeding ground for the coronavirus. The closures may make it harder for authorities to identify outbreaks stemming from the protests, public health experts warn.<\/li>
  • Faced with the possibility of canceling Olympic Games already postponed to 2021 due to covid-19, Japan is mulling ways to \u201csimplify\u201d the global sporting event with sparser crowds and mandatory testing.<\/li>
  • Oil prices dropped on Thursday on doubts over the ability of crude producers to agree to extend record output cuts, heightened by worries over a build in U.S. fuel inventories. Brent crude LCOc1 futures eased by 29 cents to $39.50 a barrel by 0839 GMT, heading for its first fall in six sessions.   • President Vladimir Putin has declared a state of emergency in a region within the Arctic Circle in far northern Russia after 20,000 tons of oil leaked into a river from a power plant. The spillage occurred on May 29 when the \u201coil products\u201d leaked from a tank in an industrial plant operated by a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, the world\u2019s largest producer of palladium and one of the largest producers of nickel, platinum and copper.<\/li>
  • Fifteen U.S. airlines were granted final government approval on Wednesday to temporarily halt service to 75 domestic airports as travel demand has been crushed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. Transportation Department said all airports would continue to be served by at least one air carrier.
