What could I do to help?  My schedule\u2019s full and time is short. I want to help but don\u2019t have time to make a difference\u2026<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Then it hit me.  Why not a food drive?  Everyone has to eat, and everyone can contribute. So I suggested that as our first outreach project and that\u2019s where we started!<\/p>\n<p>We just finished collecting food for the North Gwinnett Co-op here at CablesAndKits.  Below is part of my internal forum post about this project.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Donating food is one of the easiest ways we can help our community. The North Gwinnett Co-op is an outreach ministry in Buford and has an urgent need for food donations. They\u2019ve seen a steady rise of not just homeless or poverty stricken families, but middle-class families coming for assistance. That\u2019s scary and eye opening &#8211; let\u2019s do something to help.<\/p>\n<p><BR><strong>Many people are turning to food banks for the first time because of the economic climate:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 99.4%<\/strong> of food banks and distribution agencies reported seeing more first time users in the last year<br \/>\n<strong> \u2022 74%<\/strong> reported seeing more newly unemployed persons<br \/>\n<strong> \u2022 48%<\/strong> of food banks and distribution agencies reported seeing a greater number of children in their food lines<\/p>\n<p><BR><strong>Within the next week, a \u201cdonation center\u201d will be put in place in the break room. Our goal is to collect 500 of the following items in 30 days (Aug. 12 \u2013 Sep. 12):<\/strong><br \/>\n(please be sure food isn\u2019t expired)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>peanut butter and jelly<\/li>\n<li>pasta and sauces<\/li>\n<li>rice and boxed dinners<\/li>\n<li>canned meats<\/li>\n<li>canned fruits and veggies<\/li>\n<li>bathroom tissue<\/li>\n<li>paper towels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><BR>In today\u2019s world, your situation can change in the blink of an eye through no fault of your own. What goes around, comes around. Helping others helps EVERYONE.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.northgwinnettcoop.org\/\">http:\/\/www.northgwinnettcoop.org\/<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Our 30 day campaign has just ended and we collected 611 items!!
