Remember how I talked yesterday about lunacy? Well, our revenue was up 65% over the previous day which was already up over 100% over normal levels. The advertising\/marketing is working! It was another crazy day for the shipping crew, but they got it done.

I don\u2019t think I have ever been so glad to see a weekend, especially a long one, in my life. I am flat out running on fumes to the point (and I am not joking) that when I walk I sometimes think I am going to trip over my own feet and fall down. My wife told me that my job this weekend is to sleep. Not only is she right, but how sweet! She must love me \u2026. Or she doesn\u2019t want to have to clean me up if I die in a fall on her floor. Either way, I get to sleep like I\u2019m in a coma and I can\u2019t wait. A few weekends ago I slept 16 straight hours. I wonder if I can beat that record!

I know my staff is wore out too, especially the folks in our warehouse \/ fulfillment center. I\u2019ve been up there helping them some and I can see the tiredness in some of their faces. More the warehouse manager than anyone \u2013 he\u2019s running in 20 directions keeping the show on the road. I am so grateful to the entire team for every part of their contribution to what we have been doing. Our sales and customer service people, web developers and product folks, and even my wife, who have jumped at my every request, many times at 12, 1, 2, 3AM to get things ready to go live for these emails. e-comm\/marketing, purchasing, accounting, and Gary who is our Administrative Officer making sure that as fast as I break all the rules we clean up my messes. I\u2019d like to\u00a0thank the Academy<\/a>\u00a0\u2026.. (and my parakeet).

As we head into this holiday weekend you might be wondering, what exactly is Memorial Day?<\/strong>\u00a0We all probably or hopefully know generally what it is about, but I thought I would do a little research and share the highlights since we are headed into the holiday weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

According to\u00a0an article on History.com<\/a>, the origin of the holiday dates back to the Civil war when General John A. Logan issued a decree that May 30th should be a nationwide day of commemoration for the more than 620,000 soldiers killed in the recently ended Civil War.\u00a0On Decoration Day, as Logan dubbed it<\/strong>, Americans should lay flowers and decorate the graves of the war dead \u201cwhose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land.\u201d According to legend, Logan chose May 30 because it was a rare day that didn\u2019t fall on the anniversary of a Civil War battle, though some historians believe the date was selected to ensure that flowers across the country would be in full bloom.\u00a0The date was later moved to the last Monday in May, transitioned to a date honoring those killed in all wars, and was adopted as a Federal Holiday in 1971<\/strong>.

I had no idea that was the origin of the holiday. I am very grateful that my generation hasn\u2019t had to go through a war with mass casualties, and I hope and pray that we (my generation) never does, but the truth is war and death is a part of life and always has been. It is very humbling, albeit a little foreign, to imagine being in a family where dad, brother, uncle, son doesn\u2019t come home. While many in my family served in wars, I cannot recall anyone that was lost but to attempt to be in the shoes of someone that has been in that position is heart wrenching.

I\u2019ve said before that I am a big Elton John fan. Some people are not aware, but the song Daniel as about a brother that goes off to war and doesn\u2019t come home. I encourage you to listen to the song again with that knowledge. This video was produced for an Elton concert called the Red Piano in an attempt to paint the picture of the story of the song.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we should take pause to remember and honor the day for what it is, let\u2019s also enjoy the long weekend it creates and use it for rest, and as much as possible, socially responsible time with family and\/or friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
