We were aware of the Heartbleed vulnerability and took steps to confirm our status within 24 hours of when the vulnerability was made known to the public. \u00a0Our on-going promise is to take every precaution possible to keep our site and your information safe not only from Heartbleed, but any other attack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now that we have that out of the way, you are probably wondering, &#8220;What in the world is <a title=\"Heartbleed: Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heartbleed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heartbleed<\/a>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cablesandkits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/HeartBleed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1748 aligncenter\" title=\"HeartBleed\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.cablesandkits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/HeartBleed-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"HeartBleed\" width=\"252\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cablesandkits.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/HeartBleed-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.cablesandkits.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/HeartBleed.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well, we can help with that. Since this is an ever-evolving situation, we will stick to the facts and the best ways to protect yourself and your personal data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First off, what exactly is Heartbleed?<\/strong> (Ok, this is going to get VERY technical, but only for a moment&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>From <a title=\"Heartbleed bug: What you need to know (FAQ)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/heartbleed-bug-what-you-need-to-know-faq\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cnet.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Heartbleed\u00a0is a security vulnerability in OpenSSL software that lets a hacker access the memory of data servers.\u00a0That means a user&#8217;s sensitive personal data &#8212; including usernames, passwords, and credit card information &#8212; is potentially at risk of being intercepted.\u00a0The vulnerability also means an attacker could steal a server&#8217;s digital keys that are used to encrypt communications and get access to a company&#8217;s secret internal documents.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Now, most importantly, what do you need to do about it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you think you might have visited a site that is infected or is vulnerable to Heartbleed, you need to change your password,\u00a0please <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>wait<\/strong><\/span> until you get confirmation from the specific website\/online store that the vulnerability has been patched. You can check a site with a tool called <a title=\"LastPass Heartbleed Test\" href=\"https:\/\/lastpass.com\/heartbleed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LastPass<\/a>. We would recommend even if you use the tool to check with the company itself to confirm that they are safe and not vulnerable to Heartbleed.<\/li>\n<li>You should be cautious about visiting websites that you do not trust.\u00a0 Generally the risk is <!--more-->that such a website might try to install a virus on your computer, but if you\u2019re using a vulnerable browser they could use Heartbleed to go after any passwords you have stored in your browser\u2019s memory. (see next point)<\/li>\n<li>Microsoft\/Apple computers and devices should be safe, but if you\u2019re using an Android phone that hasn&#8217;t been updated, then you might be vulnerable.\u00a0 If you\u2019d like to check, go to your phone settings, there should be an \u201cAbout\u201d or \u201cAbout Phone\u201d link, check to see what your Android version is.\u00a0 If it\u2019s 4.1.1, contact your carrier about updating your phone.<\/li>\n<li>Always be in a routine of changing your passwords.
